WASHINGTON Top White House officials counseled Democratic senators Thursday on coping with disruptions at public events on health care this summer, officials said, and promised the party and allies would respond with twice the force if any individual lawmaker is criticized in television advertising.
These officials also told skittish senators that fresh polling suggests an emphasis on issues such as barring insurers from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions is a political winner, able to increase support among independents, women, seniors and rural voters.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss details of the closed-door session that took place hours before lawmakers headed to their home states for a monthlong vacation.

“If socialized medicine is best...WHY DIDN’T TED KENNEDY GO TO CANADA?”
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! We have our battle cry!
My auto insurer doesn't like for me to purchase collision insurance after I crash the car. Apparently, democrats will never realize that insurers are in business to make a profit (or else end up bankrupt, like GM and the like.)
[T]he AFL-CIO announced plans to mobilize labor activists to attend town hall meetings in 50 congressional districts this month to counter the conservative protesters.
Remember Spike Jones' "Never hit your Grandma with a shovel It makes a bad impression on her mind"?
I think we are about to learn what Obama really means when he speaks of "shovel ready."
Another good sign:
START PACKING; YOU’RE TOAST
EXACTLY!
I sell health insurance.
I get calls, ALL THE TIME, from people who refused to buy health insurance, when they were HEALTHY, and then want to buy a policy, AFTER they get diagnosed with something!
Sounds like a bunch of thugs meeting behind closed doors with orders not to divulge their strategy for wreaking havoc upon others. Way to go politicians - it's what we've come to expect from you!
Next thing the rabble will want is posthumous life insurance policies.
Okay, so the issue of pre existing conditions is a concern. Why can’t Congress and the president deal with that issue? Why do we have to overhaul and destroy the entire healthcare delivery system because of that issue?
Then again, what about controlling costs? If insurers have to take everyone with a pre existing condition, everyone’s insurance rates will go up sharply to compensate for their additional costs.
How does Obama propose to really control healthcare costs? Part of the high cost of healthcare is the modern technology, which is very costly. Who will pay for all the CT Scanners and MRI machines and all the rest of those diagnostic tests and equipment under Obamacare?
And what about tort reform? Part of healthcare costs are the defensive medicine that doctors practice. Some docs order every conceiveable test be done on patients to rule out this and that, so they have a defense when somebody like John Edwards sues them in the future.
What about malpractice insurance being so expensive?
There are so many pieces to the puzzle besides insurance companies ripping us off. Nancy Pelosi really over-simplifies things with her attacks on insurers.
Sounds like mobster / thug talk!
Possibly a veiled reference to senior citizens who've become too costly to cover?
The pressure from insisting they hear us out at town halls is clearly working. Let’s keep it up, people!
The gods of the communists way are poking their ugly fingers not just at US but in the very eye of the Creator...
“coping with disruptions”
As opposed to listening, I suppose?
Can you imagine this kind of nuts and bolts pimp job from the media if Bush were president and the tables were turned?
The number one word used to describe protesters would be “courageous.”
And I'd be willing to bet that she and her husband have made plenty of money investing in insurance companies.
The hypocrisy of these people knows no boundaries.
