These officials also told skittish senators that fresh polling suggests an emphasis on issues such as barring insurers from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions is a political winner

My auto insurer doesn't like for me to purchase collision insurance after I crash the car. Apparently, democrats will never realize that insurers are in business to make a profit (or else end up bankrupt, like GM and the like.)

EXACTLY!

I sell health insurance.

I get calls, ALL THE TIME, from people who refused to buy health insurance, when they were HEALTHY, and then want to buy a policy, AFTER they get diagnosed with something!

Okay, so the issue of pre existing conditions is a concern. Why can’t Congress and the president deal with that issue? Why do we have to overhaul and destroy the entire healthcare delivery system because of that issue?

Then again, what about controlling costs? If insurers have to take everyone with a pre existing condition, everyone’s insurance rates will go up sharply to compensate for their additional costs.

How does Obama propose to really control healthcare costs? Part of the high cost of healthcare is the modern technology, which is very costly. Who will pay for all the CT Scanners and MRI machines and all the rest of those diagnostic tests and equipment under Obamacare?

And what about tort reform? Part of healthcare costs are the defensive medicine that doctors practice. Some docs order every conceiveable test be done on patients to rule out this and that, so they have a defense when somebody like John Edwards sues them in the future.

What about malpractice insurance being so expensive?

There are so many pieces to the puzzle besides insurance companies ripping us off. Nancy Pelosi really over-simplifies things with her attacks on insurers.
