The Chicago Diner was joking when it labeled it's tip jar "Palin Retirement Fund," during Market Days Chicago's gay-pride-like festival.
No one would actually expect a GLBT-friendly, vegan business to donate money to the gay-marriage-opposing, moose-shooting former governor of Alaska.
But it seems one blogger didn't get the joke.
A writer at HillBuzz.org approached the manager and demanded to know if the money collected would be donated to SarahPAC, the former governor's federally registered political action committee.
"No, of course not. That's for us," the manager said, according to the blogger.
"Are you a 501(c)(3) authorized to ask for donations to a 'Fund' of any kind? If so, whats your 501(c)(3) number? asked the blogger.
"Look, for the last five years we ran a Bush Impeachment Fund, and no one complained," the manager reportedly said. "People here hate Palin, and we've gotten lots of compliments on those jars. People take their pictures with them and everything. So this is the first negative thing I've heard."
The blogger now wants to make a complaint against The Chicago Diner's business license and is calling upon his readers to call or e-mail the restaurant to protest.
Here's a tip for the blogger: Instead of protesting the fake "fund," maybe you should learn how to find the humor in the jar.
Thats hilarious. Do to them what they did to palin-file lawsuits and cost them money!
This tip jar is no different than setting out a jar to solicit funds for a sick child then keeping the money for yourself - it is illegal and theft - I say notify the IRS!
And where did that money go? The feds ought to rake these guys over the coals. But that won't happen.
Complain to the USPS Inspection Service about this obvious case of “mail fraud”. (Trust me, that’s what the practice is, and “they’ll know what to do”).
Since the idiot also said he has done the Bush fund for 4 years... who knows how much he collected and kept for himself... that money does not belong to him. But thanks for putting it out there so now the DA will take an interest in this...
I'm assuming these two guys are grown-ups and not so much focused on gay marriage but the direction this country is going... right?
Not the demographic I want to go after.
But why would these people “hate” her?
Everyone with functioning neurons, should be in favor of a smaller, less intrusive government, and lower taxes.
Because she's happy...and they are not.
They tried that crap in the VP debate but Sarah Palin wouldn't let them get away with it. After Biden almost got away with a mealy mouthed smoke blowing answer, Palin asked a follow up and had him admit that there was ZERO actual policy difference between them on the subject.
“functioning neurons”...that there is the problem, there are sooooo many out there who are NOT firing on all cylinders
“Because she’s happy...and they are not. “
Excellent and to the point observation.
Lighten up.
LOL!
Are they mailing out solicitations for donations? If not, I don't see how the USPS would have any interest in looking at them.
NBC tells the blogger to get a sense of humor and just laugh about the donation jars. I’m sure if there was some sort of similar jar collecting funds for the lawsuits against Obama based on his birth status, NBC would find this insidious and demand the city attorney look into it.
That said, my suggestion would be organizing a boycott of the “Chicago Diner” for their despicable bald faced partisanship. Hit them where it hurts—in the pocketbook.
The left is so two faced.
It is OK for them to put out collection jars to harass Bush & Palin but scream when there is a joker/Obama poster.
I guess in a society where we are all equal some are moe equal than others.

I’ll laugh about the donation jar as soon as these same people get off Sarah’s butt over her DEFENSE FUND just like the Clintons had.
