Rasmussen’s Generic ballot report holds some encouraging subsurface dangers for Obama’s Democrats.
Built on a simple question: “In the next Congressional election would you vote for a Democrat or a Republican?”, Generic Ballot poll results can be a valuable indicator of what might happen in the next election.
On Inauguration Day Obama was very popular and Congressional Democrats enjoyed a healthy Generic ballot lead. The January numbers had Democrats favored by 42% and Republicans favored by 35%; a very big lead in this type of poll. Now that advantage is gone.
Since he took office Obama has seen his numbers drop from a +20 point advantage to today’s -8 rating on Rasmussen’s Presidential Approval Index which compares the percentage of people who strongly disapprove of Obama with the percentage of people who strongly approve of him.
No blip on the screen
The latest Rasmussen Generic poll shows Republicans favored by 43% and Democrats favored by 38%. The Democrats have been behind since the end of June when Obama’s malicious intentions began to be understood and the Democrats continued to support him anyway.
Fifteen months out, it’s too early to think today’s Generic Ballot is the final word on how 2010 will go. But sitting in the middle of Rasmussen’s report is a very encouraging statistic: Independent voters prefer Republicans by 43/22!
Women who voted for Obama 56/43 and for a Democrat House 56/42 now prefer a Republican Congress 40/39.
Men who just nine month ago voted 52/46 to maintain Democrat control of Congress, now want a Republican Congress by 47/36.
It’s taken less than six months, but Obama’s personal popularity has eroded and his policies are driving likely voters away from him. This combination of factors suggests a long next Election night for Obama’s Party.

Time is not on the magic marxist’s side. He is wearing out his welcome by the week. Barring some major tail-wagging-dog situation (and don’t for a second count that out), he will get nothing done next year.
At -8, I’d be curious what % of Dems/Indy’s/Pubbies made up the sample.
If the Dems in congress are dumb enough to believe their own propaganda about the town hall folks then they deserve their fate.
It’s gone past a flippant “told ya so!”. This hater is tearing down everything America held dear. Many saw him for what he was long before November, but there are still too many who are still blind to him and what he will bring down on them.
The toadies and presstitutes of the MSM are reacting like the discontented bitches they are as the tide changes too abruptly on them.
They were all just excited about being able to elect a black man... thought it was cool.
I warned them to watch out for what they wished for because once the truth came out about his racist, Marxism - the people would turn against him in droves and the Democrats would lose big, big time.
And, the media is STILL licking his butt. If that ever stops, he will be driven out of town before his term is even over....

I disagree Scott. I think time is entirely on his side. He and the Dems don’t care about Tea Parties or townhalls. I think they see 30-40 House seats as “acceptable casualties” if it means getting their program in. They know that it will take not just majorities, but ideologically cohesive SUPERMAJORITIES to dismantle this if they get it in, and they are counting on the voters’ anger fading after 2010.
People do have short memories, you are right. If the economy is doing better by Nov ‘10 then Dem losses could be limited. Question is whether enough voters will still be concerned about the loss of freedoms. And even if the Dems should lose their majority, undoing the damage might not be possible.

I agree. My Rep is from a purple district...calls herself a Blue Dog. But during this recess, she has scheduled ONE meeting with voters - mid-afternoon in the produce section of a Safeways, located 2-3 hours drive away from the only city in her district. That was yesterday, and she met them 1 by 1, so she only talked to 20 total.
The Democrats are willing to take some losses to win control of the country.
I had lunch with a “yellow dog,” retired elected Dem official last Monday who is “sick of Obama.”
With the help of the corrupt MSM, Bush and Republicans were mercilessly bashed for 8 long years. Most regrettably, Bush and his administration decided that he would be above the fray and allowed the media and liberals to dictate - on all levels - the discussion. Republicans took an absolute beating for 8+ years with no response. The Republican brand took a bad hit. (Bush and Republican spending didn't help either.)
Now along came Obama who sang sweet nothings into the ears of Americans. The corrupt MSM did all they possibly could to hide Obama’s past and true radical aim. The American public was - understandably - very weary of 8 long years of liberal screeching all the time about Bush. The public just wanted that cacophony to stop. They thought Obama was an agent of change for civility and peace.
Now Americans can see the true radical nature of Obama and Democrats. There are no more Republican foils to be used. The Democrats stand naked before the American public. To a degree, the corrupt MSM are helpless in their effort to conceal the truth any longer. Sure, they are trying to soft sell and put everything in a favorable light, but they cannot hide the bare facts any longer.
Thus, the American people, being primarily conservative in nature, are REJECTING in droves what they are now beginning to see in the clear light of day. I believe this trend will continue.
The only dark cloud is the feckless Republican leadership - there is none. And there is no conservative alternative message - yet. Ultimately, it will not be enough simply to be “anti-Obama”. There must be viable options. However, what we are seeing right now is the American public starting to freak out over what's happening and showing that they are willing for ANYTHING other than Democrats. That will carry us, but only so far.
We need a leader. We need a good, clear message. With that, the Democrats will face a blood bath at the polls. Absent that, we will still make gains.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if behind the scenes Rahm has called in Heath Shuler or others and said, “Look, don’t worry about it. If you lose, we have ‘x’ slot waiting for you. You’ll be taken care of.”

This Administration has behaved EXACTLY as if they had a mandate for what is basically REVOLUTIONARY change to all aspects of American life-—the only difference between them and the team Fidel Castro put together after 1959 is that this ‘coup’ was “bloodless” at the outset, very sophisticated and psychologically streamlined, and it had ever so much more to work with from the beginning, in effect, “more to ruin”. They are very patient, just like the Islamic Jihadists who are their retrograde blood-brothers, and are willing to lose a little here, if they can gain a little there. THey’re incrementalists, and are constantly gauging and , (to use an current Obama word) “calibrating” the public mood along with their public statements to see how far they can go in one area while maintaining some kind of emotional hold and feeling of ‘good will” with the public. YET they are still pig headed and tone-deaf enough EVEN NOW to continue the contemptuous appraisal of grassroots protestors (now the TOwnhall ‘mobs’) as “bought and paid for” by the insurance companies. They stupidly ignored and dismissed the first of the tea party demonstrations on April 15th the same way, then they chose to ignore altogether the July 4th demonstrations (probably unable to separate out the traditional patriotism from the more particular anti-Obama sentiment), and NOW, here they are again, completely
on the offense, speaking to who knows what audience of losers, telling them we’re a bunch of rightwing kooks financed by Big Business. When this kind of thing happens, I feel obliged to remind everyone that Freud called this
‘projection’-—the far Left in this country does in fact owe its viable existence to Big Money, and guess who the current supplier of the Big MOney is, Big Money in undreamed-of quantities that allow these criminals to bribe whoever and whatever industry they want?
