I'll be absolutely gobsmacked if it's even 100,000. A million would give me some hope.
I’ve put together talking points for people to use...send these to your representatives, the media, talk show host, the GOP headquarters demanding accountability for liberbal hypocrisy....
1- for six years from 2003 all we heard was “dissent was patriotic”, even shrillary was caught on tape screaming it....now all of a sudden dissent is no longer patriotic...
2- when loud mobs roamed the streets of New York city during the GOP convention in August/September of 2004, setting fires on 7th Avenue, destroying property and even beating a NYPD officer unconscious, none of the leaders from the rat-wing party spoke out about it- not even the two rat senators from New York, nor complained how dangerous it was, nor spoke out about the posters making GWB look like Hitler.....yet now they complain that no GOP lawmakers are speaking out against people loudly complaining at town hall meetings...
3- during a speech in Nevada last October is was obama himself who incited mob violence when, in a speech, he encouraged his obedient followers that, “ I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” when speaking of McCain’s supporters… yet no one in the criminal liberal media seems to remember this....
4) Jodie Evans, an obama bundler, member of his campaign finance committee and member of code pink charged the stage during John McCain’s acceptance speech in Minnesota last September.
please use the above talking points to e-mail congress, the senate, the media, during talk radio...better yet call the GOP media department and remind them of this and tell them to start fighting back!!!
Agree/Big Brother has a vast spy network at his disposal with a media/propaganda arm such as the Stalinists would have been proud
Let the Action at home plate during the recess play out for the blue dogs. Some congressmen will respond but we don’t know how many.
DC is an expensive trip for the Tea party. I am going, but can barely afford it. The homefront action is the first line of defense.
Seriously, what kind of "taking to the streets" will move Voinovich (stepping down after this term) or Collins, LET ALONE BOXER, to change a vote or seriously oppose Obama?

The saddest part of all is that we have generations in this country who have no clue nor the capacity or care or concern to know what our Constitution states.
There is a lot of popular energy right now but it lacks an effective and charismatic leader(thinking Solidarity here). There is no focused plan of agitation or even civil disobedience( like a general popular strike)
There are a number of ways to think about this long-term, but until someone emerges to focus the energy into activity things will be chaotic but not effective. Most likely the movment will be frustrated into submission.
I don’t think the enormity of what is going on now has really sunk in with most people. The press is focused on disdaining the authenticity of the participants. The government seems entirely in control of this situation, and the fact that you even mention the idea of a military coup(this is so far beyond our historical experience it makes me really afraid.) means that you have abandoned hope for an awakening of the general population. You may be right.
But until someone can act effectively and articulately to lead the unrest, it will fade away. I think this is what they are counting on. As well as the fact that they will push for new voters thru immigration and corrupt elections. We shall see.
But at this moment this is not a movment of descamisados but of the productive who don’t want to lose their shirts and their freedom to the government. I have watched this phenomenon of the Obama election and have thought how could this kind of third world stuff happen there. The idea of the man on horseback, the resentment of the few translated into a general resentment. It didn’t happen over night. I don’t know what strange events are lurking on the horizon to change this scenario.
I just don’t know.

Then DON’T LET the media get away with their lies. Put out photos and videos on YouTube and Twitter and the other services to show the true numbers, and corner the media as well. Hold them accountable, whether in Washington or local. March on them if you have to.

The answer, of course, is that nothing will change these people - and nothing will make our erstwhile ‘champions’ (the Republicans) put up more than a Token Resistance...
(The representation we need in Congress would be using every trick in the book to obfuscate/delay/deny the easy victories - we need people who fight dirty, and wear the “Party of NO” label with pride!)
(But, I digress...)
My point is that too many of us are guilty of short-term-tunnel-vision — we know, in our hearts, that we’re not gonna stop anything that’s happening now, so our strategic goal must be to provide the kernel for the (hopefully) vast majority of the ‘vaguely discontented’ to coalesce around, over time....
Tactically, we’re on the right track - being loud and boisterous and confrontive and combative. The more our enemies take notice and attack us, the more Undecided/Apathetic take notice of the essential ‘wrongness’, and our movement grows.....
Discouragement is our real enemy!!
My thoughts too. However, I think it's worse, because once the Doomsday Machine is in place, a mere majority will NOT be sufficient to overthrow it. You'll need supermajorities of remarkable will, plus a Court, plus a President. Reagan didn't have that. Bush certainly didn't. The closest we have had to that is FDR in 1933.
It’s perhaps worse than that. My students (18-22) have no concept of what “socialism” or “communism” or “totalitarianism” is because they’ve never seen it-—even on TV-—in their lifetimes.
Neither of us do. My regret is for the following generations.
As noted up thread, one of the critical tools for repression which previous totalitarian regimes lacked is the almost unlimited technological ability to track, monitor and even cut-off troublesome individuals from the ability to conduct their daily lives.
A few computer clicks here and there and your bank accounts and other assets can be frozen, your credit cards canceled, your utilities shut off, your conversations monitored and even your ability to travel freely denied.
What has happened is that our self-anointed ruling classes, the so-called elites/insiders/oligarchy, etc. have finally achieved their dream and have effectively severed the chains of the Constitution of which George Washington spoke and detached themselves from accountability to the people.
At least, that appears to be their calculation. Accordingly, they now feel free to drop all their pretenses about government “of the People, by the People and for the People” and simply enforce their will. Whether or not they have miscalculated, overreached and/or moved too quickly is yet to be seen, and that small uncertainly is pretty much the thread on which our last hopes hang.
The ironic aspect of this unfolding realization by millions of Americans that “the game has changed” is that the evidence has been there for a long, long time, but invariably those who tried to point this out and explain it were derided, ridiculed as “conspiracy wackos”, shunned and frequently banned from discussion venues. But hey, the Trojans locked Cassandra in a dungeon, so that’s nothing new... /g

Well, ok, you “went there.” So where is the military? Are you ready for another bleak thought? Wonder why O hasn’t followed through and brought the military home from Iraq and Afghanistan like he “promised?” Think he really cares about defeating terrorists? I think it’s a Caesar-esque tactic of keeping the legions far away so they can’t oppose the king.
Indeed we are. And another sad irony is the tremendous number of Freepers today who have no idea what we're talking about...
