Russian Subs Patrolling Off East Coast of U.S.

WASHINGTON A pair of nuclear-powered Russian attack submarines has been patrolling off the eastern seaboard of the United States over recent days, a rare mission that has raised concerns inside the Pentagon and intelligence agencies about a more assertive stance by the Russian military.
The episode has echoes of the cold war era, when the United States and the Soviet Union regularly parked submarines off each others coasts to steal military secrets, track the movements of their underwater fleets and be poised for war.
But the collapse of the Soviet Union all but eliminated the ability of the Russian Navy to operate far from home ports, making the current submarine patrols thousands of miles from Russia even more surprising for military officials and defense policy experts.
I dont think theyve put two first-line nuclear subs off the U.S. coast in about 15 years, said Norman Polmar, a naval historian and expert on submarine warfare.

...'Russian' subs are just attack 'SSN' type boats, I'm not so concerned. Ditto. It's their boomers I'd be concerned with.
Plus we know exactly where they are -all the time. Just fun and games time for our side...

You wouldn’t see that face walking down the street and mistake it for a man that comes from a long generation of Missouri farmers. Good grief! Just looking at him gives me the creeps.

Maybe even the SS Texas?
Texas is in port, just had a change of command. Laura Bush (the boat's sponsor) was in attendance and there are pictures of the ceremony posted on navy.mil.

Nice link.
“In 1988, the Soviet hydrographic research ship Keldesh positioned itself over the wreck of K-219, and found the submarine sitting upright on the sandy bottom. It had broken in two aft of the conning tower. Several missile silo hatches had been forced open, and the missiles, along with the nuclear warheads they contained, were gone.”
Is this inferring the US got their ahead of the Soviets and appropriated the missiles? 18,000 feet of water, could that have been done?

Not even close...
...one had/has a competitive nature (at least has genes for capitalism) or wouldn’t have gotten to where he was; the other was...well, God is probably the only one who fully knows how he got to where he is now et al...it sure wasn’t through hard work, good grades, and a history of verifiable hard work...we don’t even know where he was born, or anything substantive

Actually a Russian SSBN just out of port in the Barents Sea or the Sea of Okhotsk can turn all American cities into rubble, and have been able to since the 70s. They dont need to patrol near the US.
Depressed trajectory shot. Assuming the President and senior civilian and military leadership are all in Washington, there'd be no time for them to react. US launch authority would devolve to somewhere else, probably to the senior officer aboard an E-6B.
