TV in Southern Oregon just issued a Tsunami warning for Souther Oregon
TV warning

Posted on 08/04/2009 2:16:01 PM PDT by milagro

Anyone else in Southern Oregon hear the Tsuanmi warning--was just watching HGTV and it appeared across the screen. Just curious if this is a test--or a real warning.

There’s nothing on my scope. No reports on the world quake sheet. Must have been a test.

a very obscure reference, but I did see the movie which was terrible, but somehow enjoyable to watch anyway.

Whenever there is an earthquake in California or Baja, the pilings in the Columbia River vibrate and the tunnels running through the Oregon coast’s highway system experience exfoliatation of their ceilings (cave-ins). This is not a joke.

It seems like it would be hard for a quake in the Gulf of California to cause a tsunami which would hit Oregon. Maybe the quake will cause waves that will bounce off the mainland coast south of Mazatlan, ricochet off Tahiti, and wind up heading straight for Southern Oregon.

Thanks for the info--and I LOVE your tagline!

BTW, does your screen name reference the Wolf Creek here in Southern Oregon?

Thanks—just went to the link. Wolfcreek posted. But still no tsunami warning on the Noaa link, and no explanation of why Jackson and Josephine counties were included in the warning. They are quite far inland.

Tsunami? No. Mistakenly sent message just a test, forecasters say

A mistake during a training exercise caused a message to go out to television stations this afternoon that a tsunami warning was being issued.

Ryan Sandler, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Medford, said there was an in-house training exercise for issuing emergency weather warnings. Someone neglected to push the buttons that prevent the emergency message from going out to television stations.
