Are Town Hall meetings running amok?
Examiner Washington, D.C. ^ | August 4, 2009 | Karyn McDermott

...Politicians have seized upon the ‘town hall’ concept as a way to promote themselves first, party second and ideas third. Message is usually “I care about you”. Normally this is a great way to win the hearts and minds of voters. Not so now. Forget about the relaxed atmosphere. Gone.

The wonderful Politico website reports: “Screaming constituents, protesters dragged out by the cops, congressmen fearful for their safety — welcome to the new town-hall-style meeting, the once-staid forum that is rapidly turning into a house of horrors for members of Congress.”

Ask Tim Bishop, a Democratic congressman from New York who told Politico, referring to his decision recently to suspend town hall events, “I had felt they would be pointless; “There is no point in meeting with my constituents and [to] listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation.”

Republicans...are keeping an eye on the mood at town hall meetings and looking at what this means...

The Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Pete Sessions from Texas said “The days of you having a town hall meeting where maybe 15 or 20 of your friends show up — they’re over. You’ve now got real people who are showing up — and that’s going to be a factor.” ...

Last night on FOX, Sean Hannity, said “Democrats are afraid to show up at these Town Halls.”

Dick Morris, author of the NYT’s best seller Catastrophe replied “this has got to be a time of unbelievable pressure (for Democrats).”

Tea parties, town hall meetings; it would seem the natives are, indeed restless. It is no coincidence Glenn Beck’s “Common Sense’ continues to top the best seller lists nation-wide. Americans are fed up.

For all you out there in Balmur: “
A tipster left a message under a previous entry about a possible town hall meeting next Monday (August 10th) with Elijah Cummings and Ben Cardin. I called around and I received confirmation that next Monday at Baltimore City Healthy Start at 1622 North Carey Street in West Baltimore that there will be a town hall meeting with Elijah Cummings. I did not get confirmation on the Ben Cardin aspect of it though. If you are interested in Congressman Cummings’ opinions about health care and all the other pressing issues of the day then I suggest you show up. So please show up and bring the hard questions. Mr. Cummings still needs to explain why he supported bailing out the banks.”

Call and fax you congress vermnins and say NO to Obamacare.
Go to google, type their name, go to Contact and get in state and DC phone and fax numbers. Write them down.

Go to www.faxzero.com and and you can send two FREE faxes a day. Type a quick letter and also tell them no free healthcare for illegal aliens. Fax a day. One to one of your senators and one to the congressperson. Rotate among their various instate and DC offices. Do it every day.

Call and say no and ask them when their next townhall is and get everyone you know at the meetings.

I watched the Bishop town hall fiasco (for him) on youtube this morning. He kept whipping out the usual BS lines and seemed genuinely surprised that people recognized BS immediately.
He was about as effective as a lame hare surrounded by wolves.
It was very encouraging to see.
Next week, Arlen Specter will be doing town hall meetings in my area, at Bucknell and State College on 8/11 and 12. Too bad he will probably get much better treatment from the pampered collegiate moonbats.

For Oklahomans: U.S. Congressman Tom Cole (OK-4) will be in town at noon Tuesday for a scheduled town hall meeting. This will be held at the Red River Technology Center in the seminar room and is open to everyone with interests of federal legislation.

“...possible town hall meeting next Monday (August 10th) with Elijah Cummings and Ben Cardin.”

Don’t do too much planning. Per Mark Levin’s show yesterday, the MD democrat reps aren’t allowing anyone in to the meetings unless they’ve been invited — by Cummings, etc. I think they stacked a meeting last night. They don’t want any more videos showing any dissent. They want to be able to say “everything went fine” — as Elijah Cummings said today on Fox News. Of COURSE everything went “fine”; they had prohibited protestors from attending.

If they won’t let you in, visit their offices in groups — with a videographer.

I think it is so exciting what is happening at Townhall meetings.

We as FReepers need to attend them and speak out boldly.

Local newpapers should have schedules of individual representatives and the senators townhall meetings.

WooHoo!

Its a start but it really won't be effective till they start resigning their positions.

Remember the protests by Cubans in Miami over the return of Elian Gonzales?

The MSM called them “mobs”.

If they are holding their event in a location that is otherwise open to the public, and try to shut people out, they should be challenged and the TV stations should be invited to cover them being shut out. This building is open to the public. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

Rec'd a letter in the mail from Lucas...that read like he is turning tits up..and wanting to fashion some sort of compromise with the Dims. Really ticked me off....and I told his office critter that.....

We have some of the best Rep's around....but they still p**s me off.

This is having a trickle down effect, too. Our local school board had announced they were going to ask for a property tax increase to cover their “mounting expenses.” The public meeting on that is tonight. This morning’s news brings word that they’ve “changed their minds” and decided now would not be a good time to raise property taxes. They said they had heard from a large number of people who were very opposed to their proposal. My guess is they didn’t want to have to face us tonight. It’s going to be interesting to see what their story is tonight. We had already planned to be at the meeting. We’re still going.

What a bunch of crap. People aren't being dragged out by cops. These are people (yes, angry) who are not advocating violence, but just trying to have their voices be heard. The media has lost their grip on the propaganda and the people are waking and finally trying to do something about it. Keep it up folks and don't let the media tell you that we are paid and bussed in Right wingers.
