Stung by fierce criticism, Clearwater has canceled a plan to remove about a dozen flagpoles and American flags from city property to save money.
After the story appeared on tampabay.com on Friday, nearly 300 readers posted comments, with many calling for Clearwater officials to be summarily fired. City leaders also got what the mayor described as "an unrelenting volume of phone calls."

How does removing the flags and the poles save that much money? Surely there are other more productive cost cutting measures they could have thought to do instead.

Kind of like the 'Claude Cooper Copper Clapper Caper'.
This was likely just another dodge in order to fearmonger their way into getting the citizenry to accede to their wants. Usually they do it by announcing that “these budget cuts mean that we will have to cut fire and police coverage by XX amount”. They threaten important programs so that they won’t have to make cuts in their pet programs like midnight basketball...
dhimmicrats count on the citizens to be docile and complacent. Hopefully this is an indication that once again they have miscalculated...
Typical of city councils around the nation. They think nothing of blowing millions of local tax dollars on half-assed sculptures to plop in the local parks, but spending a few bucks to keep the flag flying is too much.
