CHILMARK, Mass. -- Black Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. on Sunday joked about his arrest by a white police officer, but also described receiving death threats and dreaming about being arrested at the White House.
In his first public appearance since sharing a beer at the White House on Thursday with the officer and President Obama, Gates said the national debate over racial profiling sparked by his arrest shows that issues of class and race still run "profoundly deep" in the United States.
"They have not been resolved at all," he said, speaking to a crowd of more than 150 who came to see him at the Martha's Vineyard Book Festival.
Gates was mostly light-hearted during his speech and even poked fun at himself after a man in the crowd told him he admired his sense of humor.
"I should have been funnier in the kitchen of my house on July 16," he said.

The ass has to learn something basic. STOOPID, illiterate immigrants came from Europe, sat down on a farm somehweres and in two to three generations their children were doctors, lawyers , teachers....and other trades and professions. The parents saw the value of education and the great opportunities in America. They also had a near no show in the penal system.
Why? They chose to integrate and get into the stream in the Great US of A. If they can do it, why can’t the Black???

I’m not judging whether this guy recently arrested in NC (Boyd) is guilty or not, but after reading the info they have on him, I would not be surprised if he was arrested largely because he fit Obama’s profile of the “White Devil.” They haven’t released any info on why they think he was plotting a jihad, and they seem focused on the fact that he spent time in Afghanistan at terror camps. But on the other hand, when he was in Afghanistan, the terror camps were being used to train Afghans to fight the Soviets. I’m not sure that translates directly to jihad. They say he converted to Islam, etc., but I would not put it past the Obamites to arrest him solely on the basis of the profile, and for political effect.
Much like the faux Indian in Colorado thought he was a rock star.
With him, Sharpton, Jackson and others of their ilk, they will continue to create controversy, stir the pot and keep fanning the flames. It makes them rich and famous and that’s about all they care about.
I have yet to hear him acknowledge that he behaved poorly on that day and that - gasp! - he created his own fate in that situation.
