The latest US missile defence test, conducted last night in Hawaii waters, was deemed a success as tensions continue with North Korea over that country's missile programme. A short-range ballistic missile was fired from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on the island of Kauai and then was shot down by a three-stage interceptor missile from a destroyer, the USS Hopper. The test, conducted by the Navy and the Department of Defense's Missile Defence Agency, marked the 23rd firing by ships equipped with the Aegis ballistic missile defense system. With the latest test, there have been 19 successes, including the shooting down of a dead US spy satellite last year.

Thanks for the pic of the ‘Amazing Grace’, Rimorel. Not many know of the Admiral's groundbreaking achievements in the Aegis technologies.

Heh, they are famous! I heard they were pieces of wire...

I do think God put her in charge of time up there...and that is somehow a comforting thought!

Libs scolded Reagan, the “amiable dunce”, that this was
total foolishness. If it does’nt work, how did B.O.
hoodwink Putin into trading it for some cooperation on Iran?
Why would Putin be afraid of Star Wars if it is just a boondoggle as LibDems have told us?

yup... all about 11.?" long.

they were having a timing problem at the time and she saw that the wires were all different lengths so she ask one of the engineers what was the speed of light in miles per hour, then in feet then in seconds, then in nano-seconds and it turns out it's about 11" long.

she said cut ALL the wires at 11x" long and BINGO!!! timing issued GONE!

He cancelled the European Midcourse Radar, or EMR, program, not Aegis and the SM-3 which were used in this test.

Raytheon Standard Missile-3 Achieves 15th Hit-to-kill Intercept in Space

File Photo
A Raytheon-built Standard Missile-3 destroyed a short-range ballistic missile target in space July 30. The test marked the 15th successful hit-to-kill intercept for SM-3 and the 19th overall successful missile intercept of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense program.

“SM-3 is a mature and proven solution for defeating threat ballistic missiles,” said Dr. Taylor W. Lawrence, Raytheon Missile Systems president. “This intercept proved once again that SM-3 is the right choice for protecting the U.S. and its allies against the growing ballistic missile threat.”

The target ballistic missile was launched from the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range on Kauai, Hawaii, while the crew of the guided missile destroyer USS Hopper (DDG-70) fired the SM-3.
