KEVIL, KY (KFVS) - A man was shot and killed in McCracken County after police say he tried to break into a family's home around 2:00 a.m.

The family woke to the sound of the alarm system, indicating the door to the attached garage had been opened. The homeowner went outside to investigate, when he heard his wife inside screaming.

He ran back into the home where his wife told him the intruder, later identified as 18-year-old Andrew Caleb Barnett, was inside their attached garage attempting to get into the home through a wooden door with a window, according to police. The homeowner reportedly yelled several times that he had a gun, telling Barnett not to come inside. However, Barnett continued to make advances toward the man. Police say the homeowner fired one shot at Barnett, hitting him in the arm, and going into his chest area. Barnett apparently fell to the floor but got back up fighting the homeowner, at one point, biting him in the arm.

The fight continued through the home and eventually back into the garage. When police arrived they arrested Barnett and transported him to Western Baptist Hospital for the gunshot, but he ultimately died.

The McCracken County Police Department reports the 18-year-old was under the influence of Psilocybin Mushrooms, or "Magic Mushrooms" as they're called on the street, and thought he was inside his own home. At one point, he even called the homeowner "Dad".

It's just so sad when a 'shroom head is shot by his own hallucinatory father.

The intruder won’t make that “mistake” again. Decisions, choices and actions have consequences. The homeowner was 100% justified, IMHO.

How sad. I am relieved that the family came out of this with only a bite wound. This could have ended much worse.

In the future the homeowner should double tap.

We are missing the undercurrent in this story. MSM Spin: This is exactly why people should not have guns! This poor teenager had no evil intent. In the teenager's clouded mind he was simply locked out of his own home and just wanted to go to bed. Had these homeowner’s acted responsibly instead of “STUPIDLY”, they would have assessed that the poor teen needed medical attention not a bullet! These types of stories will continue to pop up more and more frequently until “they” are ready to make their move. The war on the 2nd amendment is well underway.

The headline and first sentence don't match. The headline screams teen, as if the teenager were the innocent victim of a home invasion. The first sentence then explains it was a man who was shot and killed while attempting a home invasion.

At one point, he even called the homeowner "Dad".

So why was he biting his Dad, if he simply thought he was in his own home?

How do they know the intruder thought he was at home, if he is dead?

My shrooms experience involved gawking at clouds and later pictures at an art museum, taking in all the swirls of color, sound and smells, running around playing frisbee or something, aand then munching down at a BBQ. A mellow day. Sounds to me like these shrooms were “dipped” in something nasty, as fake ones usually are. Some creeps used to dip them in PCP in the 1980s. I’ve never heard of anyone tending toward violence on those things.

Thats pretty sad, I feel awful for the teen, and simply terrible for the guy who shot him. People should just say no to Drugs, and I say that as a libertarian.
