Good pick up. I have always wondered about that. I assumed that Hawaii may have just become politically correct and started issuing fairly recently COLBs that changed Negro to African. Could that be the explanation? Worth asking the state of Hawaii.

I got a new birth certificate in 1984 because my parents misplaced my original. Maybe the one that shows the term African was part of new issuance.

Does anyone else have a recently printed Hawaiian COLB from a black person born in that era? My first thought was that the data was entered into a computer and all references to negro, colored or black were changed to African during that data entry. Just having African doesn't prove that document as conterfeit because it was already claimed to be computer generated from the original records.

I still want to see a photo-reproduction of the original long form birth certificate with the hospital named and delivering doctor's signature.

I was listening to Hugh Hewitt yesterday and he called all birthers nuts, on the level of 9/11 truthers. He then proceeded to take only callers that agreed with him, and pronounced that this will be the last time he talks about the birth certificate idiocy, period.

I think the COLB is worthless, but “African” isn’t a slam dunk for me, since I can imagine how someone would have called Barack Sr. an African to distinguish him as an African Negro as opposed to an American Negro.
