No web source I've found yet - just announced as breaking news on Ten TV - an unexploded device has been found on the New England Highway in New South Wales. Bomb squad responding.

Do you have a map of New South Wales that would show the road in question?

Why can't they say "live bomb"? Is it because that would be speculative? I mean, the coffee cup on my desk is an "unexploded device" -- but I don't feel the need to call the Australian bomb squad.

When they say "unexploded device" they are speculating that it is a "live bomb". They should just say "live bomb".

I swear half the problems in the world come from people who just won't come out and say what they want to say.

I don’t know - it seems odd to me. But it is what is being reported.

One of the things I liked about Oz what that there are very few major roads.

True, but this is the main route between Sydney and Brisbane.

A unexploded device could be just about anything. A 100-meter safety zone doesn’t sound too big.

Now being described as a hand grenade - so probably not much to worry about.

Of course it’s been a few years but I drove from Sydney to Frasier Island. The only freeways were within city limits of the few towns. Everything in between was a single lane road.

I was very much thinking along those lines. Maybe I should have come right out and said so. ;)

No kidding. I don’t know about Australia but here the BATF calls a gas can and lengths of pipe, “Bomb making materials”.

Thank you. I’m a Road Geek, but the Wiki article did not have a good map.

That should liven things up in Willow Tree. It's a very small place, nothing much happens there...
