6 Reasons Obama-Care Is Bad Medicine
Townhall.com ^ | July 28, 2009 | Chuck Norris

No one denies that in an affluent country such as our own, it borders on tragic that millions do not have some form of health care. I feel for those Americans; I really do. I agree that health care reform is needed badly in America, but I don't believe the bill of goods called "universal health care" that is being pitched presently by our president contains the solution. In fact, I believe it is bad medicine for America.

--First, universal health care unwisely is being rushed.

Should sweeping health care reform be enacted in a world-record time? Just like the stimulus packages and bogus bailout baloney, Obama-care is being shoved downed America's throat (without explanation) and propelled like a ramrod through Congress (without examination). I call it the Obama blitzkrieg: create crisis; crunch numbers; and cram legislation. The fact is the president continues to sell the program, but there is still no single plan he or Congress is ready to sell.

--Second, universal health care clearly would drive our country deeper into debt, which is being progressively purchased by foreign powers without any concern by Washington to stop it.

Obama said in his nationally televised news conference, "Health care reform is not going to add to that deficit; it's designed to lower it." How can he say that when they haven't even settled on a single health care plan? When he doesn't know the far-reaching implications of offering it in every community across the nation?

The president is struggling to base his rhetoric in fiscal reality. Even according to the Congressional Budget Office, the Senate version of the health care legislation "would result in a net increase in federal deficits of about $1.0 trillion for fiscal years 2010 through 2019." Is that what you call good fiscal responsibility within an economy and government that already is bordering on bankruptcy?

--Third, universal health care would impersonalize health care and ration medical services.

Government takeover of health care also would allow Washington to use "comparative effectiveness research" to dictate to doctors which treatments they should prescribe and how much they should cost. That in turn would lead to rationing of health care services.

Canada and Europe already have proved that national health care translates into national nightmares, with a plethora of new government regulations and new systems of rationing medical attention. Under government-run services, personal health care would transform into more impersonal harassment. More government means more menacing minutiae running our lives.

--Fourth, universal health care ultimately would limit the competitive market of health care.

And what about for the taxpayers who would pay for the program? Would having universal health care encourage their future productivity? Further taxing members of the upper class (which would mean further penalizing their productivity) certainly would not provide incentive for Americans chasing the American dream. And their added taxes obviously would trickle down to consumers, as well. Or do we just assume they would pay 47 million Americans' universal health care out of their surpluses?

You don't create competitive markets by creating monopolies, yet that is exactly what government-run universal health care would prevent: competition. If government should do anything, it should crack down on medical insurance monopolies. If government wants to regulate one more thing, it would be better to regulate the medical insurance companies, not the American people.

--Fifth, universal health care ultimately would transform legislators into quasi health care practitioners.

With government-sanctioned universal health care, legislators would become quasi medical practitioners because they would lead and guide the government-controlled medical boards, personnel and policies that would oversee the program. That would include abortive and end-of-life counsel and services. Federal politicians would rely upon relatively few chief physicians (appointed mostly by them), who in turn would oversee and implement the medical policies and procedures that they felt were best for the country.

--Sixth, universal health care would increase big government, and America would continue on the slippery slope toward socialism.

The nanny state is not our solution to better health. Our government already provides two medical coverage programs: Medicare (for senior citizens) and Medicaid (for low-income citizens). The president mentioned in his speech last week that those two programs are the greatest contributors to our skyrocketing deficit. So why not reform, improve and enhance those programs rather than create a third (or fourth or fifth) government medical bureaucracy called "universal health care"?

What is needed in Washington is a truly bipartisan group that is allowed an ample amount of time to work on a compromise health care program that wouldn't raise taxes (for anyone), regulate personal medical choices or ration health care.

Why wait for Washington? Go to http://PatientsUnitedNow.com to learn more about how you and your local community can reform health care and keep your options for doctors and medical care. And mostly, go to the Web site of Dr. Betsy McCaughey at http://www.DefendYourHealthCare.us. She is a health policy expert and former lieutenant governor of New York and actually has read the entire Senate bill on universal health care. She is disclosing many hidden details within it that are not being discussed with the American public.

The one thing that I haven’t heard addressed through this entire debacle....or rather the one question I haven’t heard asked: If they are so damn concerned about the ‘uninsured’ why aren’t they focusing on them instead of destroying what is arguably the best health care system in the world. Leave us the hell alone. If you are so concerned, then dole out your millions made illicitly, to those poor souls that want health care but cannot afford it. LEAVE THE REST OF US ALONE

This bill is really scary. :( Thanks for the post.

Here are some page #’s and things that can be found in the bill.....

PG 59: The federal government accesses your bank accounts for mandatory funds transfers.
PG 65, Sec 164: Creates special, federally-subsidized coverage for Unions and “Community Organizing” groups.
PG 84 Sec 203 HC bill - Dictates the benefits packages of all private health insurance plans.
PG 85, Line 7: Limits what private insurers can offer (rationed care).
PG 91, Lines 4-7: Mandates that health care providers pay for interpreters for illegal immigrants.
Pg 95, Lines 8-18: The mandatory use of ACORN and Americorps for signing up Americans to government insurance.
PG 85, Line 7: Imposes more limits on coverage (rationing).
PG 102, Lines 12-18: Mandates Medicare for all who fit criteria (removes all choice).
PG 124, Lines 24-25: Bans companies from suing the federal government, bans the entire judicial system from hearing any cases on the legitimacy of this blatantly unconstitutional socialist health care takeover (no judicial review allowed whatsoever).
PG 127, Lines 1-16: Instructs doctors/AMA on what salaries they are allowed to make.
PG 145, Line 15-17: Requires all employers to enroll all new employees in the government system (no choice whatsoever).
PG 126, Lines 22-25: Requires employers to independently provide insurance for part-time workers, whether they can afford it or not (no choice).
PG 149, Lines 16-24: Imposes an 8% payroll tax penalty for any employer (making over $400k) who fails to force his employees onto government insurance.
PG 150, Lines 9-13: Employers making between $251k and $400k pay 2-6% penalty.
PG 167, Lines 18-23: Imposes 2.5% income tax penalty on any privately-insured individual who fails to get “adequate” private insurance.
PG 170, Lines 1-3: Stipulates that all non-resident aliens pay nothing (we foot the bill).
PG 195: Federal officers will have full access to every citizen’s most private records.

Americans should it and read it themselves. And then urge everyone they know to do the same. They will become more educated on the matter than their own reps and Senators and will find scores of reasons that this monstrosity must not pass.

Here is a link to the full House Democrat Health Care Plan in PDF. In Section 1233 E & F, pages 426-433, you find the part about mandatory end-of-life counseling for anyone over 65 years of age. Section 152 Page 50: All healthcare services will be provided without regard to "personal characteristcs" which is not defined within the document but is understood to include immigration status.

A lot more provisions now being documented at that site.

Also, here's a large image of the Democratic (Obama) Health Plan chart-another Obama empty promise. This is the one the House democrats are censuring. Email these links or the image to everyone you know.

Obama and all those pushing his radical agenda are abject marxist ideologues. Their "fundamental; change" is nothing more than a destruction of the American free market and fundamental republican principle.

Where does the US Constitution say the poor or anyone else shall be granted Health Care by the Federal Government? It doesnt! Check Article 1 Section 8 Enumerated Powers of the Federal Government.

NONSENSE.
Nothing tragic about it.
In this affluent Country people chose to be criminals. People chose to be drug addicts.People chose to kill their unborn babies.
Surely some people have no immediate health care through no particular fault of their own.But many 10’sof thousands that could have healthcare chose not to have it for the same reason people chose not to have insutrance to drive their car or to have life insurance etc. Yes there are plenty of things wrong in our health care system.NO we do not need the Federal Government taking over our health care.

There are as many reasons why universal health care in America is ‘bad medicine’ as there are Americans who will be forced into it.

There is something abjectly immoral about a system of government which makes political capital out the peoples’ misfortune of becoming ill or needing health care.

The government is the ‘kiss of death’ to any sort of delivery of services you can name. If you only look at the positively byzantine nightmare of public education in this country, that would tell you everything you need to know about the likelihood of the U.S government's timely and proficient delivery of national health care.

I am surprised we have not heard mor about the direct electronic access to your bank account by the Federal Government. This seems like a BIG deal and the first I heard of it was last night.

Under the guise of “your behaviors now cost all of us so is not your own business” getting health care is far from free because it allows access to ALL parts of our lives from diet to risk-taking activities. It is like being a “pet” instead of a human being.

jeffhead has had several posts with information on this heinous bill. He has a link to the whole bill if I’m not mistaken. It really is a bad bill. Facebook’s poll has people opposed to it 3 to 1, so there are idiots posting comments over there trying to persuade users of what a good idea Universal health care is. Makes me sick.
