July marks the145th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta that marked the beginning of the end of the Southern people's quest for independence.

The past is doomed to repeat itself.
Although in a way I can understand why, whoever put John B. Hood in charge of the Confederate forces made a grave error.
Another US War Victory.
It will be left up to the Sons of the South to save this country after this bunch of socialists get done wreaking it.
On the front:
"ON FIRE"
On the back it reads: William Tecumseh Sherman
ATLANTA 11-15-64

SANDERSVILLE 11-26-64
SAVANNAH 12-10-64
CHARLESTON CANCELLED

TOUR OF THE SOUTH
It went great with my Napoleon, European Tour 1795-1815, t-shirt.
“Did you know that Confederate Brigadier Gen. Stand Watie,
an American Indian, held the highest rank on either side,
Union or Confederate?”

HEY!
They are talking about your namesake over here!
Not sure but I think that would have been President Davis.
Patrick Cleburn would have been a better choice (imho)
Mike
Well, this time write your own anthem. "Dixie" was written for a minstrel show in New York, NY by a Yankee.
Like the man said, you can look it up. :)
Pretty catchy tune. I agree.
There was a brief correspondence between Hood and Sherman over the period of a few days prior to Sherman's moving on the city...it's pretty fascinating. In a nutshell, Sherman offered to assist in the evacuation of civilians and cautioned Hood against locating his guns and fighting positions in and among civilians.
Can't say he wasn't warned.
A sympathetic (post-Atlanta) anecdote regarding Sherman can be found at General Sherman's Georgia Romance.
Robert E Lee is said to have stated he (John bell Hood) had all of the lion and none of the fox
Did you know that Yankees burned Atlanta 3 different times?
1864, and the 1996 and 1999 World Series.
I Love The Smell of Burning Cotton in the Morning.
The beginning of the beginning of the end. Atlanta wouldn’t fall until September....
hh
LOL!!! I don’t like the Yankees much, but I can’t stand the Braves.
tha popped an old song into my mind! I don’t remember the first line but the rest went like this...
*****************
The burning of Atlanta was a sad and dreary one.
For Sherman came a marching with a hundred thousand men.
And through the flame, through the smoke, over the cannon’s roar,
You could hear them Rebels call “We ain’t skeerd of you all!
We don’t care what the Yankees think, the South is gonna rise again!
Were tough as nails and you better turn tail and head back where you been!”
They took our beans and burned our barley,
We still got our Confederate money!
We Don’t care what they Yankees think, the South is gonna rise again!
And the hero of the ‘union’ died broke, nearly penniless. His progeny (NYC’s finest residents) probably can’t even answer the question “Who is buried in Grant’s Tomb?” correctly.
***Well, this time write your own anthem. “Dixie” was written for a minstrel show in New York, NY by a Yankee.***
Dixie is an enjoyable song but it wasn’t the National Anthem!

The Bonnie Blue Flag
We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!
Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
As long as the Union was faithful to her trust
Like friends and brethren, kind were we, and just
But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
First gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand
Then came Alabama and took her by the hand
Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida
All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Ye men of valor gather round the banner of the right
Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fight
Davis, our loved President, and Stephens statesmen are
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
And here’s to brave Virginia, the Old Dominion State.
With the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate.
Impelled by her example, now other States prepare
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star.
Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Then here’s to our Confederacy, strong we are and brave,
Like patriots of old we’ll fight, our heritage to save.
And rather than submit to shame, to die we would prefer
So cheer for the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star.
Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Then cheer, boys, cheer, raise a joyous shout
For Arkansas and North Carolina now have both gone out;
And let another rousing cheer for Tennessee be given
The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven!
