Intensity matters in politics and, at times, is more important than approval.
It may be, and the ratings certainly suggested this was the case, that the television viewing public preferred Jay Leno to David Letterman when choosing which late-night talk show to watch. From a political standpoint, however, it would do a candidate for elective office little good at the polls to announce he was a "Leno person" or to denounce Letterman. Preference in late-night talk show hosts is simply not an issue on which people vote.
On the other hand there are issues which, while they matter little to the vast majority of the electorate, are of great importance to a minority of voters; indeed these issues do a lot to shape the attitudes of these voters and to direct their behavior in the voting booth.
The issue of Barack Obama's citizenship falls into that latter category.
There are those who, despite ample evidence to the contrary, maintain that Obama was born outside the United States. And that, as such, he is not a natural-born citizen of this country and is not eligible to hold the high office he now occupies. These peoplewhom my bloleague Robert Schlesinger calls "birthers"despite some fairly convincing details on the other side of the argument, argue that the copy of Obama's birth certificate that has been made available for public examination is either an outright fraud or some kind of forgery.

One thing is for certain, the right answer at the wrong time is the wrong answer. Timing is everything on this one.
And that’s why the left is demanding Lou Dobbs stop mentioning the missing birth certificate.
Because it’s hurting republicans.
of course it is.
not
Oh I did not know the vast majority of Americans do not care if the President is a citizen. They are getting nervous. About this.
It is response to the Major Cook thing you can be sure. They need to pull out all the stops to ensure more service men don’t do wht Major Cook did
Republicans have next to nothing to do with the issue
Ample evidence...A fake colb and a newspaper ad???
Nope, that’s just ‘progressive’ code for “we gonna put you in Gulags, Stalags and whatever other prisons we have left when we empty them out from all of the unjustly convicted minorities......”
Well..., as always, “time will tell”...
The other part of that phrase is that I’m afraid that “time” just keeps on ticking by. I mean, I knew pretty much all the basic facts before the election. Sure there has been a number of additional details and filling in, here and there, and another case or two or three, and a different name here, another lawyer there — but this is the same place as it was before the election.
What was it before the election? Well, “birth certificate” and “qualifications”. What is it now... well... birth certificate and qualifications. What has changed? Just a bunch of details about “birth certificate” and “qualifications”. LOL... and that does seem funny to me...
So, the one thing that I keep urging people to do is get their own state legislature to pass a law that requires a candidate to produce a birth certificate or else he cannot be on the ballot.
In doing that particular thing — that’s one thing that I know that “time” won’t pass by. On all this other stuff... it just seems that it keeps on going and going and going — but that’s all that happens... the “going part”... :-)
The “law” would be the thing that *works*....
And for *that* we should have massive organizational campaigns, right here on Free Republic to get that going in the various states. But, I have hardly ever heard *one word* about that kind of a campaign with FReepers, practically nothing at all, except me posting about it... :-)
And to me that means that the legislators in the various states are *not hearing* about this kind of solution in their state at all. They’re not hearing about it, because when something like this kind of a campaign is going on, FReepers *do hear about it*... and in this one, we hear “nothing”...
Remember when the helped us get the “perfect” candidate. Johm McCain. They are so good to us.
So why the buzz now? It may have to do with the judge in CA who was in the Marines. The Dems do not want to read the Obama DeathCare bill or provide the BC but they sure as hell want us to pay taxes.
The Judge CANNOT and SHOULD not use his Marine experience to color his judgement in any way. Sotomayor was just pillored for doing the same thing. To assume that because the Judge was a Marine he will (or should) side against the President is liberal thinking.
Organize it then
Hawaii gives special privileges to Native Hawaiians.
Apparently, according to a post today, the short form is not enough to get these privileges. Hmmm, why not???
Someone needs to find the link to the requirement of the long form on the Government’s site or more info about this.
This should be a focus of info and a good counter argument to those that get interviewed or those reporters who are willing to ask questions.
Find it and Get the info to Lou Dobbs.
Judge Carter also served at Khe Sahn in JFK/LBJ’s Vietnam War. He got a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Khe Sahn was one of the most brutal battles/siege of the war.
I think this lib news media frenzy has to do with Judge Carter.
“The Obama Birth Certificate Issue is a Dangerous Distraction for Republicans”
No moreso than the “truthers” were for the Socialist Dems.
We’ve posted that hundreds of times here.
gleefully
Bingo
Not as many in West Virginia...
This is not where I was going. The man served at Khe Sahn and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star there. He will not be intimidated by anyone.
If you do not know what Khe Sahn was look it up on Wiki.
Yep! It has everything to do with Judge Carter, the Marine. I pray for his safety every day. It seems a certain choir director and passport worker were not so safe.
I hope the Obama operatives are thoroughly intimidated by the thought of being in the sights of the U.S. Marines.
