President Obama received flack from all sides for his answer to a question at his healthcare press conference in which he said that the police officers involved in Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates' arrest acted stupidly.
But who could have predicted that Daily Show host Jon Stewart would do a presidential put-down?
I wasn't at the press conference last night, and I also don't have all the facts, but I think it's fair to say that Obama handled that question oh, what's the word I'm looking for stupidly? the Comedy Central star cracked.
In light of Walter Cronkite's recent passing, a Time magazine poll picked Stewart as the anchor now regarded as the most trusted newscaster.
Maybe it's a sign of the news-entertainment fuse, but Stewart actually topped the list.
Almost 45 percent thought the comedian was Cronkite's heir and disregarded the big-name network anchors.
Nearly 30 percent picked Brian Williams, 19 percent chose Charles Gibson, and only 7 percent selected Katie Couric as the most trusted newsperson.
Personally, I think the next Walter Cronkite has been right before our eyes for a number of years now.
How about a Nightly News with Britt Hume broadcast on Fox TV. The other networks would take it in the ratings shorts.
Just a thought.
Meanwhile, it looks as if the Fox television network made a wise business call when network execs decided not to air the Obama-care news conference. Instead, they made the decision to stick with regular programming, which included the reality show So You Think You Can Dance. ...

God help us!
I think Hume is pretty good. No one is honest when it comes to the news. Thise days are gone.
Wonder if anyone at CBS is thinking about Britt to replace Katie.

If I remember right somewhere, CBS made a big case for (affirmative action) having a woman in that slot. Qualifications were of no concern. OK how’s that working out for you C BS. You guys are in business to attract viewers and sell advertising remember? Your front person is turning people away and I’d bet your P&L statements look pretty scary about now.
You know, there is only a certain amount of boondoggling BS that many will accept or take. Surprising that Rahm, Gibbs, and Barry have not figured this out yet.
Katie’s cryin’ cause her new younger boytoy dumped her
This is quite telling. Real news anchors are supposed to report the truth, and comedians are supposed to be funny. The people being polled are probably too stupid to understand this, but they do recognize that they only real difference between Stewart and the news anchors, is that Stewart is funnier.
nah...they are convinced that Barry is so slick and smooth he can spin his way out of anything. They are gonna find out differently.
I've been saying it for years...
This guy isn’t even a real newsperson what a joke this is. I won’t watch this guy under any circumstances. I guess
Stepehn Colbert is second???????????????
Stupifyin' Jones has done a number on our up and coming generations...

I think the lesson here is that there are no “real newspersons” any longer and a huge percentage of Americans don’t realize that. On the other hand people may have picked Stewart just to point out the lack of “real newspersons”.
I doubt it. I saw a newspiece some months ago reporting that a large proportion of the yout' demographic, 18-25 or whatever, use the Daily Show as their primary news source.
When a fake newsman/comedian rates second among alleged real journalists, it demonstrates how low we’ve allowed ourselves to be lowered to.
That's been the case long before Stewart and Colbert become household names.
Dan Rather ain't that young, and I doubt he likes to be called "boytoy". :P
