Pope defrocks priest over 'visions' of the Virgin Mary

The Pope has defrocked the priest at the centre of claims that the Virgin Mary has been appearing in the Bosnian town of Medjugorje. The Vatican stripped Father Tomislav Vladic of his priest status after an investigation into growing concerns over the alleged apparitions. Father Vlasic was named as the 'creator' of the phenomenon by Pavao Zanic, the local bishop at the time the apparitions began in 1981.

Hopefully, this will put Medjugorje hoax to an end!

The sheer evil of Medjugorje hoax could not be understood without knowing it's background. It was invented to hide horrendous crimes against Oertodox Christians comitted in Medjugorje during WWII.

Millions of people were fooled to assist them escape justice.

This news will be hard on some people who were conned by the criminal gang.

as a Catholic it always pains me that anybody puts any stock in the claims of a handful of dissident Franciscans and false seers.

Key excerpts:

"The Vatican also began an inquiry into claims he(Tomislav Vladic) was guilty of sexual immorality after he made a nun pregnant."

"It emerged yesterday that he has chosen to leave the priesthood and his order, a move which has brought the investigation to an abrupt halt."

In every other apparition of Our Lady, she appeared a handful of times and then left. At Medjugorje, she’s appeared daily to several visionaries for 29 years! Not her usual MO, IMO.

I don’t know the history of the term “defrock.” I think it’s a Protestant term.

Anyway, it is not used, in any context whatsoever, in the Catholic Church.

A Catholic priest can be SUSPENDED, which means he may not function or present himself as a priest. This is usually temporary, and is done to protect the Church and to wake up a wacko priest.

A Catholic priest can be LAICIZED. This means he is, juridically, a layman. He cannot celebrate the sacraments, present himself as a priest, or exercise liturgical ministries (such as acolyte, lector, or EMC), or teach certain subjects in Catholic institutions. (One exception: When a laicized priest encounters a person in danger of death, he may hear his confession and give absolution. And a person in danger of death may CHOOSE any priest to hear his confession. He may send the Pope out of the room, and go to confession to the laicized priest.)

Note to all reporters: The term “defrocked” is NEVER CORRECT in a story involving a Catholic priest.

Oh DTA, don't get your hopes up! This "news" report from Simon Caldwell at the Mail Online (LOL) is completely easy to "defrock". The headline itself is an obvious lie, "Pope defrocks priests over "'visions' of the Virgin Mary". Au contraire, it is not so. If it was so, there would be so many more priests to defrock! The actual reasons for the defrocking are in the article but just ignored in order to allege the false "reasoning" that the Mail, and DTA, prefers. The real history of Tomislva Vlasic is actually better reading. The apparitions began in June, 1981 and the parish priest of Medjugorje, later imprisoned by the Communists, was Fr. Jozo Zovko.

Don't look to DTA for being "pointed in the right direction". I would suggest looking at post #9 as well as www.medjugorje.org.

What a crock of crapola. That is the best story I have heard yet to discredit the appearance of the Divine Mother to the people of then Yugoslavia. She appeared to help the people forgive their brethren to avoid the ethnic war that was to ensue. The Catholic church sure wasn’t able to do anything about it.

The machinations of the political wing of the Catholic church are not relevant to the pure hearts of children who see the Blessed Mother, despite all their pronouncements.

What is sad that in any religion, the more ‘miracles’ are quashed, the less we see of them. And the less we look for them. A miracle is something unexplained and hits us in the heart as such - when science and religious politics wish to tear them down and make them ‘explainable,’ the less they are looked for.

Mankind will miss so much!

I daresay we are going to see tons of news stories about this if it is indeed true. Right now, I’m wondering??

historical background and the principal role of renegade Franciscans can be found in many sources, this one seems as a good starting point because it quotes one of the Cult converts as a starting point.

Evil? That’s just harsh.

Mary appears. It’s the truth.

Perhaps you should reflect, get right with God.

I am new here but this is appalling. I believe in Jesus and Mary. You may not. Fine. But let’s not be the kind of people who are quick to call others “evil”.

Mary lives. She guides my life. When I was a young girl she led me when the cheerleaders made fun of me.

I am so ashamed of you. Don’t call the followers of Mary evil.

They call this the shrine.
They've this and a de-frocked priest.
That's not a fun place.

Apparitions: The shrine in Medjugorje, Bosnia is regularly visited by pilgrims.

Sadly true. It’s all about authority issues rather than right or wrong.
