Lucia Whalen, the woman who set Gatesgate in motion with a 911 call to Cambridge police, has been silent ever since - and she plans to stay that way.
"She doesn't want to do anything publicly," her sister, Helena Mancini, told the Daily News over the phone on Saturday.
The Gates quagmire began shortly after lunch on July 16 when Whalen, a 40-year-old fund-raiser for Harvard magazine, saw from her office window what appeared to be two suspicious men trying to break in to Gates' house.
According to the police report, Whalen said she "observed what appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the porch" about 12:45 p.m.
"She told me that her suspicions were aroused when she observed one of the men wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry," Sgt. James Crowley wrote in the police report.
Whalen met Sgt. Crowley on the sidewalk outside Gates' home. The rest is history.

And people wonder why so few people want to be good samaritans. You call 911 to report trouble and you end up there yourself.
May be nothing at all, but it could also be strange that she calls in a possible break in—and then stands out on the street mid-day like that, waiting for the cops.
The correct phrase is “laying low”.
But the media uses “lying low” to make you think she is lying about her role in this.
After this, only a super-good Samaritan or a complete fool would report suspicious activity at the home of a neighbor belonging to a “victim” class.
Apparently word now is that she’s the racist, because
a) She’s white.
b) She called the cops.
c) She knew it was Gates breaking into his own house.
d) See a) and b) above.
Good catch.
This will certainly teach her to never again report any suspicious activity by a black man.
They should invite her to the WH for that beer.

I was looking for a pic of her and the blogs are calling her a racist,knew it was gates but does not like black people living in her neighbourhood.
I gues that means she is white.
If my next-door neighbor had an incident that I had determined justifying calling 911, and the local mediots later came knocking at my door, the only reason I can think to open my door is to tell them to get the hell off my property, if I even bothered to open the door to them.
She lives in another town (Malden), miles away, but works at Harvard magazine, which is near the house.
Oh great. Not only has Obozo set race relations back 50 years, but now people are going to revert to the Kitty Genovese mentality and be afraid to call the police when a crime is in progress?
Well thats different,explains why she would not know who Gates is.
