TALLAHASSEE -- The voice of the Florida Senate is gone.

Sen. Jim King, the longtime Republican legislator whose legacy was giving Floridians the right to refuse life-prolonging medical care, passed away Sunday. His death came less than three months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the same disease that took his father. He was 69.

A very decent guy. His right to refuse end of life extreme measures was appropriate and focused on creating a living will, not mandatory stuff.

Maybe he thought better of “end of life” care went it came to him - after he opposed and led the defeat of Jeb Bush’s legal move to protect Terri Schiavo.

Jim King bears a lot of responsibility for her death. I’m sure he’s explaining this to Our Lord right now.

Prayers for him.

So the fat corrupt creep who helped murder Terri Schiavo died on his own, no Judge Greer pulling his food and water?

Lucky him.

We had a rally in Tallahassee in the early 90s, protesting a proposed state AWB. King was the only legislator who came in on a Saturday and talked to us. Another legislator commented that we were wasting our time coming on a weekend, King told him that it was because we all had to work for a living on weekdays.

I hear pancreatic cancer is such a dignified and peaceful way to go.

Yes. I imagine this gave him at least a little time to reflect and, hopefully, repent.

My dad went through 3 months of horrible pain and rot when he died from this unforgiving disease.
