A Gatesgate At Henry Gates' "Bogus" Charity?

Henry Louis Gates, Jr controls a tax-exempt, non-profit charity, Inkwell Foundation, Inc, that managed to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct support in one year, yet only gave out $27,500 in grants, the bulk of which went to Gates' employees and Harvard colleagues.

Also, as recently as September 2008, the Boston Globe reported that Gates' charity was not in compliance with the law for failing to register the proper paperwork, despite the charity existing since 2005. The charge at the time was that it was "bogus," as you'll see below. In fact, the state Attorney General's office told the Globe the charity was likely either inactive, or dissolved. Yet, documents below show the charity is healthy, wealthy and active.

Thank you jazusamo, this is brilliant. This is precisely what conservatives are great at doing; exposing fraud. I’ve always thought that reality-based TV/movies should have been a slam-dunk for conservatives. Documentaries, serious and lighthearted, are a natural for conservatives. This kind of “expose” will make a great short. Thanks again for posting it.

Why am I not surprised? This is going to be too funny when it blows up in his face. He better think about MA Highway Patrol launching an investigation which I am sure is already underway if they have seen this one.

FOXNews just did an interview w/ a Gates colleague, Orlando Patterson, who says it might not only have been race, but class issues that caused this...the “town vs gown tension” that exists in Cambridge. He admitted that, if what officers say is true, Gates could be guilty of elitist behavior, but ended by saying the officers should apologize to Skip because they obviously lied on their report. These telling interviews are doing wonders for Harvard’s rep. Hope they continue until football season starts.

Found this story last night about Gates' lawyer, Charles Ogletree, Jr., who also happens to be a professor at Harvard. He's a radical, believes in reparations, represented Anita Hill at Thomas' confirmation hearings, is associated with the Black Panthers, and claims he was Obama's mentor at Harvard:

Gates lawyer was young Obama's mentor

$4,000 may seem like a lot of rent for that house but by Cambridge standards it is not. There are a lot of apartments that rent for more than 4k. We’re assuming Gates pays the rent. Maybe his foundation pays most of it.

There’s probably not a house in Cambridge to be bought for less than 1million. The assessed value of Gates’ house is $1,283,100. On the open market it probably would sell for more but it is owned by Harvard. Gates has a deal.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. and James Crowley

Harvard prof Gates is half-Irish, related to cop who arrested him
Two men at center of controversy linked by Irish heritage
By NIALL O'DOWD
IrishCentral.com Publisher, July 24, 2009

Professor Henry Louis Gates learns of his Irish ancestry and that he is indeed a descendant of warlord king Niall of the Nine Hostages.

Henry Louis Gates Jr., the black professor at the center of the racial story involving his arrest outside his Harvard house, has spoken proudly of his Irish roots.... [snip]

He went to Trinity College in Dublin to have his DNA analyzed. There he found that he shared 10 of the 11 DNA matches with offspring of Niall of the Nine Hostages, the 4th century warlord who created one of the dominant strains  of Irish genealogy because he had so many offspring.

Ironically, James Crowley, whose name in Gaelic means "hardy warrior," is also descended from the same line as Gates, having very close links to Niall of the Nine Hostages.

So the two men who took part in what is now an infamous confrontation outside the Gates home near Harvard this month are actually related through common Irish lineage....

Excellent article. It's almost unbelievable the way radical people keep surfacing that are friends and associates of Obama. He managed to keep the bulk of them under the radar, I'm sure because of the enemedia being in the tank for him but they're popping up now.

Well, actually it was linked under Dan Riehl explores in the excellent Feldman piece you've posted, but I wanted to save it so I would have it on my ping list.

This is excellent information. I wasn't aware of it. Thanks for posting the thread.

With your explanation it’s easy to see why it rents for that and like you say, this foundation probably pays for much of it.
