A Christian woman accused of distributing the Bible, a book banned in communist North Korea, was publicly executed last month for the crime, South Korean activists said today.
The 33-year-old mother of three, Ri Hyon Ok, also was accused of spying for South Korea and the United States, and of organizing dissidents, a rights group said in Seoul, citing documents obtained from the North.
The Investigative Commission on Crime Against Humanity report included a copy of Ri's government-issued photo ID and said her husband, children and parents were sent to a political prison the day after her June 16 execution.
*** it would mark a harsh turn in the crackdown on religion in North Korea, a country where Christianity once flourished and where the capital, Pyongyang, was known as the "Jerusalem of the East" for the predominance of the Christian faith *** more than 30,000 North Koreans are believed to practice Christianity in hiding at great personal risk, defectors and activists say.
*** The report cited indications that the North Korean government had taken "new steps" to stop the clandestine spread of Christianity, particularly in areas near the border with China, including infiltrating underground churches and setting up fake prayer meetings as a trap for Christian converts.
*** The U.S. government commission report cited defectors as saying an estimated 6,000 Christians are jailed in "Prison No. 15" in the north of the country, with religious prisoners facing worse treatment than other inmates.
*** Activists say such alleged crimes murder, kidnap, rape, extermination of individuals in prison camps can't take place in North Korea without Kim's knowledge or direction since he wields absolute power over the population of 24 million.

The collective guilt aspect (imprisoning the victim's family) is reminiscent of nazi germany.
There is one messiah allowed in North Korea, and his name is Chia-Head. And our President will genuflect to him, too...
Ridgeway was wrong and MacArthur was right. The most admirable thing the five-star ever did was not great service in WWI, WWII, and his masterful Inchon landing in Korea. His best deed was getting himself fired rather than go along with a no-win policy that has now left us with over a half century of a Korean threat and one that is now nuclear.
Hillary C are you reading this? didn’t you toast to these people? Are you going to say anything?
Nuclear weapons and thousands of artillery pieces directed at Seoul....
Actually I would have to say they are more barbaric than Saddam was. That country is one big prison and sending children to concentration camps is horrific.
I don't think it's a stretch to say that we're moving in the direction of accusing those who share Christianity as "organizing dissidents".
As the respect for the sanctity of life becomes continues to fade, execution for such an offense may be a lot closer than we care to admit.
That's the way tyrannies work, which is certainly what the current Democrat Party is striving to be.
This is a liberal’s wet dream. And if that sounds extreme, just look at where we’re headed.

Martyrs. Straight to Heaven. Please pray for us!
Prayers for Mrs. Ri Hyon Ok and her family...
Rejoice for another martyr has entered heaven!
Prayers for those that have yet to be martyrs, that they stay strong in the Lord. Prayers for this woman’s family. Prayers for the North Korean leadership, that they may yet see Jesus on the road they are traveling.
Well done good and faithful servant. What we should live (and...if necessary..die) for!
Remember her the next time you hand out a Bible, a tract or share the Gospel with someone lost. What a blessing the Lord has entrusted to us in this free nation Eagle! God help ME not to take it for granted!
