And Hatch is a no on Sotomayor too (Orin, you're a great American!)

Lindsey Graham is going to feel awful lonely on the Republican side of the Judiciary Committee dais during next week's Sonia Sotomayor confirmation vote.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who admitted he was very conflicted over his vote, has just declared that he will oppose Sotomayor's confirmation. None of these Republican "no" votes will make a difference, as Sotomayor still may get upwards of 70 votes for confirmation before the full Senate.

Hatch just issued a long statement, but here's the key passage:

"After thoroughly reviewing Judge Sotomayor’s record and being able to hear her testimony and responses during the hearing process, I reluctantly, and with a heavy heart, have found that I cannot support her nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court," Hatch said.

"In truth, I wish President Obama had chosen a Hispanic nominee that all Senators could support. I believe it would have done a great deal for our great country.

Although Judge Sotomayor has a compelling life story and dedication to public service, her statements and record were too much at odds with the principles about the judiciary in which I deeply believe. "

If they feel that way, they should do it.

Anyone heard whether Grassley has publicly stated which way he will vote?

B/S. If she receives ALL Democrat votes and NO Republican votes then the entire world will know that the most liberal president ever to occupy the White House is stacking the Supreme Court.

I agree. ALL Republicans should vote no. If they don’t throw them out too. Make the Dems own her.

Snowe and Collins are not Republicans, Martinez is voting for her because she is Hispanic and he’s not running again. Luger is just an idiot as usual.

“Then, sometime after Reagan was elected, he lost his balls and wanted to make friends and play nice with the Democrats.”

The water, or maybe the air, in DC turns all but the most hard-boiled conservative into a dishwater conservative after a while. This is a good reason for term limits. Utah could do much better than Orrin Hatch.

Still, its good to see the GOP caucus is mostly reaching the obviously right decision on Sotomayor.

For the idiots who are voting aye on Sotomayor:
Sen Graham-cracker, Sen Lugar, sen martinez - RINO roundup - a message: so suck on a crate of lemons you putzes.

Jesse Helms was an exception to that rule. God, I miss him.

I'd rank him second only to Reagan as the guy who did our country the most good in the political arena in the last century.

The “wise latina” and the organization she belongs to the NCLR also deals out health care advice on how to spend more money on illegal aliens by dumping “useless treatments for elderly whites.” She is a bum.

"In truth, I wish President Obama had chosen a Hispanic nominee that all Senators could support. I believe it would have done a great deal for our great country.

It is statements like these that show up a politicians BS political side. What difference does it make what nationality a nominee is? What matters is their qualification to be a SCOTUS justice.

Rather than saying, "In truth, I wish President Obama had chosen a Hispanic nominee", he should have said,"In truth, I wish President Obama had chosen a constitutionalist for a nominee", but no, he had to go and throw the BS about hispanics in there trying to pander to the illegal vote.
