And soon, a hack with a rag saturated with chloroform will be paid the same as a board-certified anaesthesiologist. Its the same service, as long as the patient wakes up, isn’t it?
More accurately, doctors will be receiving the same fees as midwives. Nothing against midwives, but the doctors have a wee bit more training....
Wow. An RN gets the same pay as an Obstetrician. I retired too early. These people are imbeciles. No other word for it.
Knowing the relative expertise of midwives at avoiding the problems too often caused by obstetricians and that the price of the insurance they have to pay is about the same, I'm not sure I oppose this for any reason other than that the government has no business controlling people's wages. IMHO, midwives are under-compensated because physicians control hospital organizations.
wow. way to destroy the medical profession!
I saw a statistic that 85% of children delivered by midwives are minorities.
This is obviously a ploy to give birth to more democratic voters.
Has ANY Medical Professional looked at the section of this Health Killer Bill, that states. Third Parties ie:Doctors Hospital, midwives etc. can be SUED as long as Medicare is named as a party. And Medicare doesn’t even have to participate. HELLO....Doctors Do You Hear THAT?
The list, ping
I guess that means that I, with a hammer, chisel and pliers rinsed in isopropyl alchohol, would bet paid the same as an oral surgeon.
Of course, if it will improve my chances, I'd be willing to add the use of fishing line, a heavy wooden door and a brass door knob to my list of services as well.
It would be nice to have a couple of TEMPLATE letters posted somewhere where we can get and use to send to various elected officials. I know that I use the US Chambers letters when they send me a link.
Can we set up a site on Free Republic to have some canned letters that we can customize for our own use.
Perfect. So, without tort reform, and with the same pay as a midwife, clearly more and more physicians will be going into obstetrics. Right?
The only problem with any of the births occurred when my 2nd son was born. We had an ob/gyn in attendance along with a midwife. My son's umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and the ob/gyn managed to break it (which is difficult to do) as he was attempting to unwind it. My son had to be born rather quickly as a result. Had the midwife unwound the cord there wouldn't have been any drama....
This is what socialized health care is all about. Midwives is probably a good option is 90% of births but it’s the 10% that has problems in delivery where you need the OB. With socialized medicine the 90% think it is great the gov’t pays for the midwife overwhelming the other 10% who will not have access to a OB when Obamacare passes.
more communist tripe from BO
The services might be "equal", if nothing goes wrong, but doctors are better trained for dealing with the unexpected. Many (most?) people are willing to pay for the extra confidence they can have with a doctor. If doctors no longer cost more, I wonder how much business will be left for midwives.
One of the reasons I quit doing OB about 2 years ago. I had two patients show up at the hospital ER with complications. I never signed anything to cover for a midwife. But being on call put me on the hot seat. Not one phone call from the midwife. Nothing. Just a patient with problems I had never seen before and had NO paper work on. I quit. Not worth the hassle and espically the 550.00 payment by Medicaid.
ping! (Interesting post at #14)
