The white police sergeant criticized by President Barack Obama for arresting black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. in his Massachusetts home is a police academy expert on racial profiling.
Cambridge Sgt. James Crowley has taught a class on racial profiling for five years at the Lowell Police Academy after being hand-picked for the job by former police Commissioner Ronny Watson, who is black, said Academy Director Thomas Fleming.
"I have nothing but the highest respect for him as a police officer. He is very professional and he is a good role model for the young recruits in the police academy," Fleming told The Associated Press on Thursday.
The course, called "Racial Profiling," teaches about different cultures that officers could encounter in their community "and how you don't want to single people out because of their ethnic background or the culture they come from," Fleming said.
Obama has said the Cambridge officers "acted stupidly" in arresting Gates last week when they responded to his house after a woman reported a suspected break-in.
Crowley, 42, has maintained he did nothing wrong and has refused to apologize, as Gates has demanded.
Crowley responded to Gates' home near Harvard University last week to investigate a report of a burglary and demanded Gates show him identification. Police say Gates at first refused, flew into a rage and accused the officer of racism.
Gates was charged with disorderly conduct. The charge was dropped Tuesday.

I read somewhere that the issue(”My own house!)was settled, but when he got outside, he tried to agitate onlookers, hence the charge of disorderly conduct.

I don't think so this time. 95% of Massachusetts is on the side of the police officer, including his own dept and the police unions. I think that his media lapdogs and the WH is desperately hoping to smooth this over as quickly as possible instead of seeing it blow up into a major crisis for the REAL stupid one, 0bobozo. I see that Robert Gibbs is now backpedalling for the usurper, saying that 0bobozo did not really call police officer Crowley stupid. What an assphat!!!
0bobozo's handlers are hoping desparately that this thing will die as quickly as possible. It's kind of hard for this to die however, when 0bobozo committed this blunder on national TV. I would love to have seen Rahm Emmanual's face when 0bobozo answered that question by dissing the police officer. I would be willing to bet that after the press conference, Rahm just blasted 0bobozo for his own stupidity, since I am pretty sure that Rahm Emmanuel does not have a whole lot of respect for the boy usurper..

The cop gets high marks from his superiors and was recommended to teach racial profiling by a fellow black officer. This just adds to his credibility.

Yes, but if you were of a certain ethnic or racial group and your ENTIRE LIFE had been spent "studying" and teaching others how your group has been the victim of discrimination, bigotry and profiling, it might well warp your brain too, as it obviously did with the race-obsessed Gates.
Others will think that too, when they hear he is a "Racial Profiling Expert" as reported on CNN (with no context whatsoever).

He wasn’t going to arrest Gates until he went “N” on him.
They should recharge him. No one else would get away with his behavior without a citation.

Rut roh. Looks like Gates is the racist in this drama. Then along comes Obama to stab the officer in the back. This was a two for one bonanza. Gates and Obama both openly and publicly exposed as race baiters all in one melodrama.
