Nah, faculty and grads pay for Harvard housing but at a reduced rate from market rents.
My point in raising this is not due to his rent, but in the way the press has handled the story by failing to note that this is a rental property.
A LEO responding to this kind of incident at a known high-density rental location (there are sevel apartment buildings on the same street) would perhaps treat it slightly differently than 5 blocks away over on Brattle Street (single family homes).
I am also suspecting (maybe wrongly) that this was a Harvard Square townhouse converted to Harvard apartments. Meaning a common entrance. Meaning something else altogether about the way it was handled by the LEO and by Gates.
