Stealth Care (Obamacare)

Stealth Care

July 21st, 2009 by Fr. Frank Pavone

A lot of energy was expended to stop the “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA), and those efforts succeeded. But pro-life groups warned that the FOCA provisions to expand abortion and force us to pay for it would be snuck in under another bill.

Well now it’s here, and we have to act quickly to stop it. The health care reform bills now being finalized in Congress are going to end up mandating the federal funding of abortion without even mentioning the word - unless Congress explicitly excludes abortion. And that’s what we have to urge them to do. Otherwise, we will end up with a health care reform bill that will expand abortion more radically than anything since Roe vs. Wade.

Abortion, of course, is not health care and has nothing to do with health care. After all, what disease does abortion cure? None. And what proven medical benefit comes from the procedure? Again, none.

But in the minds of President Obama and the abortion lobby, abortion is essential. On July 17, 2007, for instance, Barack Obama said to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, “Reproductive care is essential care, basic care so it is at the center, the heart of the plan that I propose…insurers are going to have to abide by the same rules in terms of providing comprehensive care, including reproductive care…that’s going to be absolutely vital.”

And Hilary Clinton said the following to the House Foreign Affairs Committee on April 22, 2009: “Reproductive health includes access to abortion…

Many will be misled by the fact that the health care bills don’t talk about abortion. But as Congressman Chris Smith pointed out in a June 26 letter to colleagues in Congress, “Without abortion explicitly excluded from any government mandated or government funded benefits package, abortion will be included. Time and again, bureaucrats and courts have decided that abortion must be included in public health programs unless the Congress explicitly provides otherwise.” That is why explicit exclusions of abortion have been placed in programs like SCHIP and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan.

Without such an exclusion in health care reform legislation, federal officials would be empowered to mandate coverage of abortion in virtually all health plans; massive federal subsidies would be provided for abortion on demand; an expansion of abortion providers would be required; and at least some state abortion regulations would be nullified.

A vast majority of Americans oppose the public funding of abortion. As Congressman Smith points out, “Abortion funding restrictions save lives…The…Alan Guttmacher Institute periodically publishes reports on the effect of limitations on abortion funding. They have concluded that when Medicaid does not fund abortion 30% of Medicaid-eligible women who would have otherwise had an abortion choose life” (June 26 letter to colleagues).

In committee, pro-life amendments to prevent abortion coverage have already been rejected by pro-abortion legislators. And they want to vote on a health care bill within weeks, before people have a chance to consider all the implications. Your Representative and Senators need to hear from you today.

We need the same, grass-roots organized campaign against Obamacare as we did with the FOCA effort. And for every other element of FOCA when they try to piecemeal slip these other initiatives into other bills as well.

Someone suggested starting the red-envelope mailing again. I think they addressed them all to the WhiteHouse and on the back wrote something about this red envelope represents one baby’s life lost in abortion.

I’m sure we can find some threads posted on it on FR.

Among the many reasons - economic, rational, pragmatic - to defeat Obamacare, the moral ought to be topmost. In the case of taxpayer-funded abortions, the moral line could not be more clear.

The evidence of Obama’s relentless, blinkered, leftist ideology could only be more clear if, instead of being merely funded, abortion were mandated. Dare I suggest that maybe that’s just Phase Two.

I would only add to the alarm raised by this thread that the mandatory “advance care counseling” mandated in the bill for the elderly is every bit as much a repudiation of the sanctity of life as is the abortion funding.

Pray, and work, for its defeat.

Pres Obuma has now gone beyond mere abortion by appointing Princeton Professor, scientist and philosopher, Peter Singer to be his “Director of the Office of Science & Technology Policy” (source: http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2009/07/obama-appoints-scary-mad-scientist.html )

This guy actually said that abortion should be allowed up to the age of two years...I don’t think that stretching the term ‘abortion’ to cover murder/infanticide will work...at least not to the average (non-philosopher bioethecist) thinking man...This fellow is a mad man with radical ideas that only another radical- like Obuma- would love...And the Senate approved him on March 19th.(op cit,above)..How’s that for a stealth appointment....

He has many other radical ideas- including the idea that animals should have the same rights as humans.(source: http://www.animal-rights-library.com/texts-m/singer02.htm ) ..So if you are a Mink can you sue if you are turned into a fur coat ?...But 2 year old humans have no rights, especially if they are disabled...

We are getting closer and closer to rock bottom...

They can read “Advanced Care Counseling” in this way: ‘Sorry, but government funds are limited therefore the government will not pay for your medication or treatment since you are over age 70..’ How could anyone in good conscience be a ‘counselor’ and bring such terrible news to an older person ?...

We no longer have a democracy...We now have a pagan government hell bent on destroying this country...We must fight back...

Someone tell the boobs on Vatican radio this is why universal health care in the hands of the left is not a good idea. I don't think this is what social justice is suppose to be about.

Not just Goober, but the entire Democrat establishment. As we've seen too many times even their so-called "Blue Dogs" will sell out for "federal pork" if the only price is another dead baby.

Eventually we are going to have to address this issue head on and change some minds ~ and there are several ways to do that.

As Obama collects this kook fringe closer and closer to himself, it rubs off.

Bet Bill Ayers is very upset about these appointments ~ no doubt he thinks his being a mad bomber is something to keep him out of the government when Obama brings in baby killer advocates like Singer.

Just a matter of time and someone like Ayers, or another kook who didn't get brought in is going to do a "Guiteau" on the guy.

We'll all cry and pretend to be sad no doubt
