They would have been good to have a Guadacanal, for sure. Takes the fun out of banzai charges.
(I got a post here once from a Marine Guadacanal veteran. The Japs dribbled their troops in piecemeal and got them all chewed up, but that didn’t make the experience any more pleasant for the Americans.)
The ‘Claymore’ mine ia an Anti-Personnel mine (Named after the Scots Midieval two handed broad sword) that requires an elcetrical charge provided by a hand held generator (’Clacker’) which sends a jolt of current to the crimped blasting cap that sets off the charge of C-4 loaded with ball bearings. A most effective weapon.
The Clacker, blasting cap, booby trap/trip wire and electrical cord are kept seperate from the mine itself in a bandolier.
Jack.

Man they have got everything, I love that place.
Princess Di must be spinning in her royal grave.
It’s easy to oppose landmines when you don’t have 40,000 troops facing the Norks across the DMZ.
“They don’t go off by themselves”. Wait, now this is a lib goofball writing this story. In their minds, a 9mm pistol just jumps in to the misunderstood, underprivileged illegal alien and starts firing off rounds. Dontchaknow.
Mr. Claymore has no friends.
“O bother, said Pooh as he fired the Claymores”

GG an G M18A1 hitch plug lost.....?:o)
Apparently it's not all grins and giggles for GG&G and their replica hitch cover any more. They've added about two pages of warnings, disclaimers, and quotes from various states where laws make owning this hunk of solid plastic a vey serious crime.
When it came out at the start of the year, they just claimed (rightly) that this will produce second looks, and lots of smiles. Their legal department really worked over the product, and the new ad copy almost begs you not to buy their product.
The local news has reports on every so often where some local police bigshot shows off "explosives" with light-blue markings on it, or a complete blue paint job. Apparently these departments never ask EOD units for a pamphlet, lecture, or video on how to recognize NATO-standard markings, and thus prevent making fools of themselves.
I treasure my super-deluxe M18A1 training set, which has live everything except explosives in the case. Clacker, tester, wire, dummy caps, bag, and just the small word "INERT" hot-stamped into the front and rear halves, and filled in with the proper shade of blue.
Yep the liberals would shiver like a poodle trying to pass a peach pit if they got a peek at my “I love me wall” of inert trophies from 21 years of EOD work and 15 more as a ummmm contractor.......:o)
