Dems Start To Push Back Hard To Prevent A 'Waterloo' Zer0:You're going to destroy my presidency
congress daily ^ | 7/22/09

A telling episode recounted by Senate Finance ranking member Charles Grassley reveals the Obama administration might be more worried than they are letting on that a Republican senator's comparison of the healthcare overhaul to Waterloo might be dangerously close to the truth.

Grassley said he spoke with a Democratic House member last week who shared Obama's bleak reaction during a private meeting to reports that some factions of House Democrats were lining up to stall or even take down the overhaul unless leaders made major changes.

"Let's just lay everything on the table," Grassley said. "A Democrat congressman last week told me after a conversation with the president that the president had trouble in the House of Representatives, and it wasn't going to pass if there weren't some changes made ... and the president says, 'You're going to destroy my presidency.' "

The White House did not respond to requests for comment.

Grassley did not name the member but said he was not from the senator's home state of Iowa. He brought up the anecdote in response to a question about whether the president's rebuke of the Waterloo remark Monday was affecting Finance Committee negotiations on a bipartisan overhaul bill. Grassley said the imbroglio was not taking a toll on the bipartisan effort.

President Obama and the Democratic National Committee pushed back hard this week against South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint's remark Friday that the healthcare overhaul could be Obama's Waterloo. Obama went directly after the comment in a speech Monday and Democratic leaders and organizations have fired off countless e-mails to call out Republicans for attempting to bring down the effort rather than offer constructive alternatives.

Zer0 says this is not about him, but see what he says: HIS Presidency, not what is good for America.

He is fast becoming a poster child on what is wrong with liberalism, i.e. - elitist and unpatriotic.

Kill this health care bill, and America’s health will improve.

‘You’re going to destroy my presidency.’

He’s been in office for a few days; and, he’s already worried about his ‘legacy’. HIS presidency?!?!

Its not what you can do for your country, its what you can do fo Barack O’Kenya.

Why doesn't this cry baby wimp we have for a ‘President’ STFU. He is the puppet of the Communist SOB’s who put him in the WH... he must know he is just a pawn. They will leave him out on that limb sooner than take responsibility for anything themselves. 'O' was bought and paid for long time ago. Is he so stupid that he thinks he IS the 'President'?

Lets hope Senator DeMint follows up and call this debacle the piece o garbage it is.

I would hope other Senators start to LOUDLY deonstrate their opposition.

We have all seen the increasingly jeering receptions that the obamanites get in their Town halls.

Thats the kind of support the Senators and House members need to defeat this bunch of mess.

Like so many have said: “Obama has a majority in both House and Senate, thus he doesn’t need Republicans for shit.” If his Uber-maxi-health-plan were worth a tinker’s damn, it would pass both on its own merit and then pass on to him for signing WITHOUT ONE GODDAM REPUBLICAN VOTE...then, pray tell me, why is this current debacle the fault of the ‘Republicans?’....

OK so sticking with the Waterloo theme we know that Jim DeMint is commanding the thin red line, and that Obama is the little self crowned emperor with a tummy ache. But who will play the roll of Blucher and come down on his flank at the critical moment and turn the tide of battle. Perhaps some foreign policy debacle. Venezuela vs Honduras or Israel vs Iran that will run gas prices up to $10 a gallon and end all talk of new entitlements. Perhaps it will be the release of the now delayed economic report. Or it could be as simple as Obamas personal approval falling below 50%.

Like at the battle of Waterloo if given enough time the forces in blue will eventually overwhelm the redcoats. They simply have the numbers. What lead to the defeat of Napoleon was that he had to break the British line before the Prussians showed up. DeMint can't hold of Obama forever. Obama will buy off or grind down the blue dogs eventually unless something imposes a time limit.

I agree.

Obama has honted humerous times that, if pushed, he’ll pass anything that comes by his desk.
