Report: Rubio Struggling In Senate Fundraising (Charlie Loafers has 4.3 Million)

Former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio plans to continue his campaign for the Senate seat being vacated by Mel Martinez, despite having a sizable deficit in fundraising compared to the other Republican candidate Charlie Crist, according to a report in the Washington Post.

Chris Cillizza of the Post said Rubio will be in Washington, DC on Wednesday for meetings and is expected to "re-assert his commitment to the race."

Rubio has garnered some national support, most notably former Arkansas governor and current Fox News host Mike Huckabee. Experts believe Rubio will try and turn the race into a referendum on the direction of the Republican Party.

During the last reporting period for the campaign, Crist pulled in $4.3 million compared to Rubio's $340,000.

Big-name Republicans in FL are giving to Crist just on the basis of “electability.”

I’m particularly disappointed with Wayne Huizenga. The guy sells the Dolphins prior to Obama’s election to avoid the inevitable tax increases, but then gives money to Crist, who supports Obama’s porkulus. Sigh.

Too bad we can’t get Jeb to run, he’d win.

Come on people. IMO, anybody who doesn’t donate/help true blood conservatives (especially fresh faces) should NEVER complain about RINOs in office.

One thing about the RINOs is they look out for their own. And while we bicker over whether some conservative stepped over the line or said something that is too extreme (the useful idiots who are now spending their time condemning DeMint or the Birthers) RINOs are pressing forward...I mean when was the last time you heard somebody call Snowe, McCain or Christ a “far-middle politician” or “extreme moderate?”

Let’s get our priorities straight and help people like Rubio in FL. and Williams in TX. elected

Way too early for Rubio to be complaining about lack of fundraising.

He needs to get his message front and center. Start posting some more videos and do some blogging. The donations will take care of itself.

Not sure he is complaining. More like the media is trying to bury him.

Yup.

We’ve seen this all before. The MSM creates the fiction that only the more “reasonable” “moderate” candidate has a chance. Conservatives watch in disgust-albeit without donating/volunteering themselves-and then we all get on FR to complain about the RINOs taking over. HOW DOES IT HAPPEN!?!?!?

Not sure. I only donate to conservatives, not the party, because they turn around and endorse idiots like Specter and Charlie Loafers.

I agree that Rubio is not complaining. Dr. Tom Coburn in OK in 2004 did not raise even close to the money his opponent had as his fundraising was dried up, BUT, the grassroots went to work, Club for Growth came in to help Dr. Tom, and in a 3-way race he received over 50% of the vote and went on to handily defeat the Dem even though Speaker Hastert said a few weeks before polls showed he was going to lose. BTW, it was a phoney poll that Hastert bought into.

WH did push card for Dr. Tom’s opponent in the primary and all it did was make a lot of us even more mad and we worked harder at making phone calls to get him elected.

Money is great but you cannot beat have a huge Army of on the ground volunteers and who will make those personal phone calls not some robocall.

Hopefully, Dr. Coburn along with DeMint and Huck (who both endorsed Rubio) will sponsor a fundraiser for him.

That would be AWESOME. Just found out that the two Senate doctors, Coburn and the Senator from Wyoming are on You Tube going against the ZERO Health Plan on an ABC Blog: http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/07/senate-doctors-republicans-make-use-of-their-mds.html

I like Jeb, but nationally he’s just another pro-illegal alien vote.

I think governor was the best position for him. He might be a good cabinet secretary or vice president, but I wouldn’t want him in a position to potentially legitimize illegal immigration.

Still can’t believe people think Rubio is a conservative

Many in Florida know that Rubio is very pro-illegal alien...and while as Speaker of the House led the move to kill an Employer Verification law (E-verify).

Rubio also fared poorly on a local radio show a few months ago when approached with his stand on illegals....he just hammered and hawed about some nonsense.

Rubio is not going to raise money from conservatives because Florida conservatives know that he is not. He is Mel Martinez Jr.

The RINO already have Crist, and are not going to support Rubio

On a related topic, I read in this morning's paper how Bill McCollum was in Sarasota the other day, speaking to the Tiger Bay club, and he was pandering to the "no drilling for oil" crowd in a major way.

Disappointing.
