When I first met my sweetie from Chicago, he was a hardcore flaming lib. NEA member! Obama supporter! Whole family of elitist libs: Harvard, Oxford, Stamford! University of Chicago!
I straightened him out. Took me 3+ years, but I did it. LOL It’s not easy, but it can be done.
Here’s what I did:
Don’t personalize his liberalism. None of this “you guys” or the “idiot lefties” or any of that stuff. I spent the first year and half starting sentences with “While I realize they meant well at the time....” then leveling my criticism. Libs are like children; they want acknowledgment that their hearts are in the right place. (which ironically why they initally such good partners!)
Bolster your case with email that includes mainstream sources that even they trust. Avoid the right wing blogs, but use their sources. Just yesterday, I sent my sweetie the NPR piece about the disaster in Venezuela regarding the redistribution of farmland.

Two reasons for this. First off, they trust it and secondly, it’s a source they can forward to their fellow leftwing nutjobs. And you’ll battle them, trust me.
Be gentle and nice, but resolute. You’ll get there.
My sweetie attended the Tea Party on July 4th in Chicago. And he LOVES Hannity and Levin. :)
He shows no interests in any of my political things, be it books, shows or book signings. He says: Oh, enough of your FOX NEWS-Conservative Politics. He is a good man, just misguided./Just Asking - seoul62......
We walk to the beach, and cover every subject imaginable. I use the same tactics that you use: "Well, the Community Reinvestment Act was passed with good intentions,but...".
I also get away with criticizing Obama by praising Hillary, and saying that Hillary had the nomination stolen from her. LOL.
Even though she's a Democrat, she's actually quite conservative. It's just that they are so programmed (like robots) to support the Dems. Frustrating.
