State job losses accelerated in June, as Texas employers slashed payrolls by 40,600, according to data released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.
The Texas unemployment rate rose to 7.5 percent in June, the highest rate in more than 16 years.
The state's payrolls shrank by 2.6 percent during the first six months of the year, a slightly faster rate of decline than the 2.5 percent fall in the nation as a whole.
Last month, the trade, transportation and utilities category, which includes the retail business, shed 21,700 jobs. Payrolls shrank by 11,900 jobs in professional and business services.
Manufacturing employment fell by 10,300 jobs, while the construction industry shed 10,200 jobs.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the jobless rate rose to 8.2 percent compared to 7.1 percent in May.

Yep. I’m one of the June (actually May 30) unemployed. But I haven’t filed yet so I probably don’t show up on the statistics yet.... been out of the country and Boy Scout summer camp for the last 4 weeks so I couldn’t really file yet.
pretty cool song...i loved the mccain palin tradition song he made
Don't know, but this is pretty fast "change"
My brother-in-law is unemployed here in MI too, contributing to that 15.2% jobless rate. He’s a very talented CNC service tech who knows his stuff and customers love him...at least they did. He was the last guy we ever thought would lose his job.
Word of warning to Texas - make sure those coming from blue states leave their liberal, union-sucking, tax-hiking and socialist-voting ways at the border!
Austin? I thought you were headed to Texas? :)J/K. Now I’m jealous that you know the Nuge.
LOL!!!
I’ve been noticing a lot of out of state license plates in the Houston area. I’m pretty that they’re not here on vacation in July.
If you get it, you’ll have lots of fellow Michiganders to keep you company. They are flocking here in droves.
Good luck!
Good luck on your interview.
Just off the top of my head, this looks as though the democrat/illegals areas are hurting more?
If you get it (good Luck btw) please do us all a favor down here and don’t start complaining about the heat and how much better everything was where you came from. And what ever you do don’t start making fun of us because we can’t drive in snow. There is a reason, we’ve been smart enough long enough to live where knowing how to drive in the snow doesn’t matter.

I have no idea, but my friend that lives there tells me they are just about everywhere now...
Every one of those counties are in East Texas -- piney woods country -- mostly rural, heavily black.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the jobless rate rose to 8.2 percent compared to 7.1 percent in May.
That's a big jump in a very short time.
East Texas isn't "mostly" black. It's that most blacks in Texas are in East Texas, where they form a significant minority -- 20-30% of the population in some counties.
Fort Worth-Arlington jobless rate rises to 8.3 percent

AUSTIN The unemployment rate jumped to 8.3 percent in June in Fort Worth-Arlington, leaving 89,400 workers without jobs and reflecting the spreading fallout from the national recession.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas’ unemployment rate increased to 7.2% last month, fueled by multiple layoffs in the service sector.
Since June 2008, Arkansas has lost 26,600 nonfarm jobs. The state says that the majority of those are in the manufacturing sector, which has lost 20,100 jobs since last June.
Well, that's bound to make the unemployment numbers improve....
Yeah, but at what cost to Texas? Michigan has been a pit for so long I don’t think they will ever solve their problems.
That was just sarcasm...It won’t help, regardless of where they come from.
