Mandatory End of Life Counseling for Seniors

One of the most outrageous mandates in the Democratic health care bill is found on page 416. [Mod note: try pp 425-426] On this page, you will see mandatory “end of life” counseling for seniors every five years. With this counseling, they will be spoken to about the different end of life choices that can be undertaken.

This is crazy. How could some Democrat not get an amendment approved during committee to remove this page of the new health care legislation?

This is only one outrage contained in this bill. If Obama has his way, forcing this bill to be voted on next week without members and citizens to actually see what is in it, we will definitely be surprised the next time we try to go see a doctor.

Call Democrat Mike Ross and ask him to stop this bill in committee. Also tell him you’ll donate to his campaign and do so, after he stops this bill. The energy committee must pass the bill to get it to the floor. There are many conservative Dems on that committee. Only 7 are needed to kill it. They had 10 yesterday. They need your support. Two other committees already passed it today. We need to call today. Also, can someone else post the names of other blue dog Dems on that committee? Thanks.

You can see the entire 1018 page health care bill here.

I am totally tired of “MANDANTORY” anything!

If it ain't manditory, it's forbidden.

“Great! What are my interment options, or is the GM car at the bottom of the Canyon it?”

If you properly turn over your assets to the government upon death, you have two choices via Obamacare:

A) A shovel ready team will promptly upon landing dig around your vehicle and build an Indian like burial mound with you in the vehicle. This shovel ready team will be ready to be deployed. Your family will receive an official Robert Reich signed certificate demonstrating that the whole team is non-white and appropriately stimulus diversity approved.

B) An environmental friendly group will clear a circumference from around you and the vehicle and build a pyre for ritual burning complete with Hindu priests and supporting chorus. You and your car will be lit aflame with natural environmentally safe canola oil.

Government Motors care not included. You or your family must provide a vehicle for your assisted suicide. Should you not be able to afford one, a vehicle with less than 25 mpg seized by the government will be offered at minimal cost. No key or ignition is permitted. Your family must push you and the gaz guzzling offending vehicle over the cliff manually.

This’ll end up being some paperwork the office staff at the doctor’s will give you like the HIPPA form (of which I have an entire tree’s worth of these). I doubt doctors will spend time explaining all the legalities while they are tapping your knees to observe your reflexes.

Since when is it any of the government’s bloody business what my advance directives are like, or whether I have one at all?

It isn't. I haven't seen much about this part of the bill anywhere except FR. It needs to be exposed.

Also, this doesn't mandate anything on the part of the patient. It merely adds "advance care planning", including planning for "end of life decisions", to the things covered by Medicare. It doesn't require counseling every five years, but rather requires the government to pay for it as long as the patient doesn't receive it more than once every five years, except in special circumstances.

I wish people would actually read the bill rather than go ape$h!t every time they see "end of life care." Believe me, there's PLENTY not to like about this bill without inventing sensational stuff like this.

Actually, I didn't read that anyone has to do anything via these advance directives. It simply requires that Medicare cover consultation regarding advance directives. It doesn't require you to get consultations, it just requires the government to pay for them if you do.

Maybe I'm missing some language here (it is rather early for me on a Saturday), but I don't think so.

Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!

I agree that we will lead the charge to save this Republic. I have a serious question. What kind of back up plan should we establish if one day we wake up and find this channel of communication has been eliminated? I know how I panic sometimes when we are down for server updates. Any suggestions?

Answers to questions like that are best kept out of the public eye for then we will be in a war to the death.

What are the chances of the “counseling” being done by Planned Parenthood? All will be encouraged to abort themselves at the end.

There will be armed revolution in this country long before the ground is fertile for this kind of Soylent Green treatment. By saying you would attend such “sessions” with your loved ones, it soundslike you’ve already passed upon them as a fait accompli. If you think it profits humanity to cull the population, I give you full permission to vaporize me should I ever knuckle down to an evil maggot like Obama.
