Since the article ran, Free Republic nutcases and others (notably Gawker) have dug into Parry's past. Here are a few of the accusations they make:
Parry has posted on Free Republic under a name other than his own;
He has a long-standing grudge against the site, and vice versa;
He has advocated posing as a conservative and posting hate speech on Free Republic to muckrake (Gawker calls this "mild advocacy" in a really unclear way);
And, most importantly, he may be the agent provocateur in this case, posting hateful comments on Free Republic to suit his article.
Some hefty accusations. Some Parry denies vehemently.
"I didn't post anything to their site [on this matter]. They're working pretty hard to keep that idea going, but it's basically an impossibility.
First of all, plenty of their people admitted to posting the comments and defended doing so...
Second, there were literally dozens of people posting those remarks, so in order for me to be the one responsible, I would have had to sign up for some 70 or 80 email accounts, then sign up for 70 or 80 different FR accounts, then post those messages from each of those accounts, remembering passwords (those are automatically generated on FR) and getting it all done in about an hour.
Just doesn't make any sense."
No, it doesn't. His defence holds up.

I remember being on a thread about the suitability of the daughter wearing a peace symbol t-shirt, but I don’t remember anything horrible being said.
There were a lot of people who thought it was inappropriate ... most blamed her parents.
Was anything nasty said about Malia and exactly what was it?
Also said that FR generates passwords??
Wish Jim Thompson would tell us!
Pass words are automatically generated?
when did this happen?
I must be old.
Yeah, there were only a dozen or so posts like that
and I haven’t seen any one accuse this turkey of posting
them all himself. That is one way of makeing a false defense
I guess.
Jim Thompson is a FRiend of mine.
Don’t mess with Jimtomp!
Is there a single fact, other than the name of Free Republic that Parry gets correct?
I bet you have never even heard of Jim Thompson.
Sounds like little Josh and his buddy, Chris, went out and had some sushi together last night.
Has anyone discovered what kind of necklace the wonderfully dressed and so appropriate fella was wearing.
I wonder what Parry thinks about a black man calling Boxer racist during a Senate hearing? HA!
"..NOW is a free weekly newspaper/magazine published in Toronto, Canada. NOW was first printed on September 10, 1981 by Michael Hollett and Alice Klein along with several other former members of the Socialist League (also known as the Forward Group) such as Wayne Roberts, the former editor of Forward. While vaguely left-wing,[citation needed] NOW was intended not as a socialist paper but as an alternative weekly mixing arts and entertainment news with political coverage. With rare exceptions, it endorses members of the New Democratic Party for federal, provincial and municipal office..."
Parry’s a greasy little Kos provocateur who’s had his 15 minutes of fame off somebody else’s efforts. I’ll have forgotten his name in a week.
wow.. parry keeps digging himself deeper in a whole..
That isn’t a peace symbol. It is a disarmament symbol. Peace symbol is right side up.
Whoops, I am wrong.
Why in the world does anyone give a damn what the guy has to say? If he utters anything legally actionable, I assume Big Jim Thompson, Attorney-At-Law will handle it down at the courthouse. If he commits fraud or something, same story. But if he’s just expressing his opinion, let him spew. It’s a free country, and a man has a right to express his opinion no matter how stupid he is. I say ignore him.
As a professor with expertise in communication, I can vouch that the technique employed by Parry is widespread among radical leftists.
It is hard for me to fathom how mods deal with this problem.
On college campuses, the strategy of planting vile rhetoric in public spaces and appending it to a conservative course is an almost monthly occurence here in the United States. I would expect these boards are regularly infiltrated with the same purpose.
The obvious purpose is to ignite public outrage that will constitute a strategic public backlash against conservative public advocacy.
If I were venturing a guess, roughly 30% or more of campus hate crimes are fabricated by activists for precisely these purposes. they are more and more discovered by campus police. College students are perfect targets for this technique because it is a constant recycling of naieve youth who want to show the world their moral standing.
I actually started doing in lectures in classes to warn students about the technique. Not nearly enough has been said about this.
As Obama continues to declline in popularity, you can take this increasing practice to the bank.
Beware.
You need to get a life.
‘scuse me but Jim Thompson is one of my favorite people in the whole world and he has been for ten years.
I just want to know if he ever had found that special someone else on that demagogueicsingles.com website or not.
If the left doesn’t hate your guts, you’re not making a difference.
