Obama Finally Finds Something We Can't Afford: Military Superiority
NewsRealBlog ^ | July 17, 2009 | Staff

Imagine a fighter jet that would give the United States complete air superiority in any conflict. An aircraft that’s faster, has longer range, and is more fuel-efficient at high speeds than any aircraft ever built. A plane virtually invisible to radar and deadly accurate, almost guaranteeing that any selected target would be destroyed. An aircraft so advanced that the armed forces of every country on earth are scared to death of it and know that they would be defenseless against it for years to come.

We have that plane. It’s called the F-22 Raptor, and our President and Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama, hates it.

One of the FEW things our federal government is actually empowered to spend money on and we “can’t afford it”.

This place gets more and more bizarre every day.

we can't afford military supremacy AND ‘social justice’

the constitution says his job is to protect the country - i can't find the part about ‘social justice’

maybe the bigot he nominated to the scotus will find it for us

It’s not that he can’t afford it, it’s that he doesn’t want to afford it. He’d rather put this nation on its knees and on welfare. The King has spoken.

Of course. Our Marxist-in-Chief and the corrupt or lace-pantied Democrats HATE the U.S. and see absolutely no need to defend it. SURRENDER IS SO EMPATHETIC, SO FULL OF THE RICHNESS OF DIVERSITY, SO FRIENDLY, SO NEW AGE, SO ... IN. Just look at the T-shirts the President’s older daughter wore on the junket to Europe.

How many Warthogs can you get for the price of one F-22

without a doubt the raptor is a superior aircraft. but longer range? as far as i know if you would add additional tanks it wouldn´t be stealthy anymore. so i don´t think it has longer range then “standart” combat aircrafts.

Not nearly as many as you can Sopwith Camels.

I dont know if I can take the partition position here. While we daily discuss the wasteful social-welfare spending here it's not popular to talk about the huge pork barrel military projects like this one. It has a sad costly history, Read the Pentagon Wars for many other costly disasters. (Navy A-12 stealth was completely canceled by Cheney and it was a disaster) Funny how we call our own pork critical.

Are Levin and hannity complaining about this? Cutting missile defense bothers me, not this. Heck, what about Joint Strategic Fighter??

...but longer range?

That's one benefit of flying supersonic without afterburners - lower fuel consumption and longer range/loiter.

It has a longer range in a given configuration, that configuration being clean, as it is because it carries all stores internally.

If you strip an F-15 clean and put it head to head range/speed wise with a Raptor, Raptor wins.

Raptor will have the same endless combat loiter time as any jet with tanker support, limited only by mechanical and pilot fatigue.

It better be tiny and unmanned, because we have the technology to put rail guns that don’t need to lead an air target into service now.

Aircraft can be superseded in the rock paper scissors sequencing of advancing military technology.

That is the "Joint Strike Fighter", not "Strategic".

Your comments point out your politics.

"And now the Russians are copying it."

Correction, the Russians are "trying" to copy it...there is one hell of a lot more to it than just airframe similarities...nuff said.

Obama, stick you socialism where the sun doesn’t shine and buy us some national security. About 500 F-22’s should do it. Now, if you can’t understand that I can speak in clearer language.

oh i admit i didn´t know that. but then again refueling over or near by enemy air space? i guess the missing of droptanks is still a drawback for the raptor against “standart” fighter jets. of course it´s allways a trade off because there exists nothing like the “perfekt” fighter jet. but still i think the raptor is indeed very very capable.
