The White House is some 472 miles from Georgetown, South Carolina. But long before Michelle Obama was born, her great-great grandfather, Jim Robinson, likely toiled in the fields here six days a week, from sunup to sundown.

To bad we can't hear about those poor farmers that did their own work instead of having slaves

AMEN! My family never owned a slave and I'm sick of lefties trying to put the blame on others for decades now. If BILLIONS in reparations aren't enough through WELFARE then NOTHING will ever be enough!

I guarantee there isn't a welfare recipient today that knows or even remembers any slaves in their family!

I thought we were supposed to 'get over' the past and try to make the world a better place?! I seem to remember that was what we were told when Bill Clinton got caught with his pants down.

"MOVE ON"!

Does this mean those vicious slavemasters gave him Sunday off? How could this be?

You know, glad you mentioned Grant, in our family, he was always respected! The soldier’s soldier, I think they could relate better to him, besides, look how he treated Robert E. Lee and the South (allowing them to retain their horses/mules to make a living and other points). No, Grant was also a man of character. We’ll defend Grant.

JeffChandler got me to thinking about Wilburforce who for something like what, 20 years? Submitted a bill to abolish slavery to Parliament. He was ridiculed, threatened, smeared and castigated but he stuck by his principles. That’s it! PRINCIPLES! You Betcha! Grant had principles...

Who is this Jim Rob? People talk like he's somebody famous, like Jim Thompson.

The liberal are liars they never get over anything..especially when they can blame the things they did on us..Like who had the slaves in the first place..Not me or my family..we at the time did not have the money but wouldn't think we would have slaves anyway..

Not that the Obama’s would make anything up, but has any of this been substantiated? Or do we just take CNN’s accurate reporting on this?

As far back as I can trace any of my family we did not own slaves. Many branches came here after slavery, and the ones I can find that were here during slavery were against slavery.

There is one exception. I can trace American Indian ancestry, and I know some Indian tribes kept slaves. Maybe I can claim victim and victimizer in the same ancestry!

Damn near everybody toiled in fields 150 years ago, because it took so much effort to produce food that only a small percentage of the population could be supported to do otherwise. Technology and cheap energy allowed this to change, and “environmentalists” want to return to the bad old days.
