Hacker hits RAAF website over violence against Indian students
The Daily Telegraph ^ | July 16, 2009

Posted on 07/16/2009 2:20:47 AM PDT by myknowledge

A HACKER has broken into the RAAF's website, leaving a message warning the Australian Government to halt racist attacks against Indian students.

The hacker identified himself as Atul Dwivedi, saying that unless the Government complied "I will pawn all your cyber properties like this one".

The incident follows a series of attacks on Indian students in Australia, attracting global media coverage and strong condemnation from within India.

A defence spokesman confirmed the break-in took place some time in the period July 13-14, forcing it to take the entire RAAF website offline for some seven to eight hours. It was replaced with a message saying the site was unavailable because of technical difficulties. The site has now been restored.

Why would the Indian students in Australia have to resort to cyber violence, just to address their grievances, let alone target the RAAF website? It's insane.

Lots of people, with a) too much technical savvy, and b) too much time, on their hands, IMHO.

And too much Aussie reliance on Microsoft products...

I wonder how many Australians would find it worthwhile to go and study in India.

The violence is by the Lebanese Muslim immigrants against Indians.

Last year, there was similar violence on local Australian whites in the beaches of Cronulla.

The Australian government does little against the Lebanese Muslims and their violence.

Didn’t the Cronulla locals end up taking matters into their own hands last year when the local Lebanese got a bit out of hand?

Well the answer is they don’t - this is just some loser’s attempt to get recognised. The Indian students have had way more attention than the problem deserves. Having said that I find many Indian students niave - from wealthy middle or upper class Indian families who live in the good part of town in India - when they come here a lot of them live in the inner city where they are more likley to encounter thugs. I have not heard whether it is Leb muslims or not as no-one has been caught for these crimes - I would not be surprised, however.

Yea, that’s what happened partly with the Indians too. But the authorities did little.

Indians in Australia say Lebanese youths behind attacks

PTI 12 June 2009, 09:04am IST

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/World/Indians-Abroad/Indians-in-Australia-say-Lebanese-youths-behind-attacks/articleshow/4646950.cms

SYDNEY: Indian students on Thursday alleged that Lebanese youths were behind the attacks on them here as they took to streets for the third consecutive night protesting against racial attacks.

The spate of racial attacks against Indians spread to Sydney after members of the community were targeted in Melbourne.

Scores of Indian students on Wednesday night took to the streets of Harris Park in Sydney for third consecutive night to protest racially-motivated attacks against them by Lebanese youths. The protesters alleged that police were ignoring their pleas for protection.

The protests came a day after PM Kevin Rudd warned Indian students against “vigilante action” to prevent attacks against them. Indian protesters continue to say they were being attacked by Lebanese youths. A man, who took part in the protest, was issued with a court notice for carrying an offensive weapon after being allegedly found with a piece of timber during a police search.

Meanwhile, Parramatta city council held a meeting with police, India’s consul general and members of Sydney’s Indian community, with organisers saying students had agreed to stop protest rallies. Earlier on Tuesday, over 70 Indians had gathered at same place after rumours of a man being killed in an attack on an Indian cleaner in Warwick Farm.

I can see the hacker guy reading this in the paper and banging his head on the table.... All that work, and they call it PAWNing?

For those who may not know, to hack into and control a computer (especially a server) this way is to OWN it.

A common typo of that word is PWN.

So common, in fact, that it's often spelled that way deliberately.

So, I'm sure the message was "pwn".

Just from my experience in World of Warcraft it’s one of the most commonly used typed and spoken phrases. It’s obviously taken on a life of its own, and I find it comical that they said “pawn.”

You’re right Izzy, I bet the hacker and his buddies are LMAO.

The author’s spell-check must have acted up on PWN and and must have forced a correction to PAWN.

That’s the way it is here in the States, too, especially with Indians on urban campuses. They tend to live in bad neighborhoods, and the local thugs see them as easy marks. That seems to be the case in Raleigh, NC, with NC State students.

Of course, another thing I’ve noticed is that a disproportionate number of Indian and East Asian students seem to be involved, both as perpetrators and as victims, in “crimes of passion”, suicides, and other random acts of insanity. That’s purely from anecdotal observation on my part and not from statistics, so don’t take that to the bank.
