here's a thought...

if you look at freerepublic.com and dailykos.com as competing products... then making fake posts to the competing products website in an attempt to drive traffic/users/clients to your site would be astroturfing

here is a slashdot story from today where the courts in NY ruled against the astroturfer

Big Jim Thompson (6'6") used to be my governor. As Illinois governors go, he was OK - a bit liberal on some issues, but that's the best we can do here. It was widely known that he was gay, but never outed.

He eventually married in his 40's and had a kid, many think to dispel the rumors. Just thought you might want to know that before continuing with the "Big Jim Thompson" gagtag.
