Yes, interesting, but it doesn’t “give” the right to own guns as the question posits, it acknowledges a pre-existing right. Rights “granted” can be taken away...

Jeese!! It's 97%, it's a left wing media outlet, and there are almost three million votes.
USA Today will say this indicates we are still a divided country on this issue.

It is a badly worded question. The Second Amendment does not give us the right to bear arms; it protects a right we already possess. And yes, it is an individual right.

I will tell you all one thing I have a lot more respect for those who voted NO than those UNDECIDEDs. Who could you be UNDECIDED?

What do you expect from a statist group. The writer of the question obviously thinks that all things come from or are given by the gubmint.

Most Americans would consider their rights to be inalienable.

The poll is from
November 2007
The only way to reach it is via link. The poll is more a measure of FReeping by 2nd Amendment people over the last couple of years than any real sentiment.

Someone who read the question and thought that it was incorrectly worded: i.e. what was really said VS what they did say.

To: pabianice
That just shows the ignorance of everyone who voted “yes”.
The 2nd amendment does not “give” any rights, it “guarantees” the right to bear arms...
We are born with our rights.
To: Apercu
Huh? I don't get the comment with respect to mine. Stating that the Second defines a pre-existing right, i.e. a right ordained by God (or "inherent to the human condition" if your a secularist), is the essential definition of an "inalienable" right, that was the purpose of the BOR in a nutshell.
Aside from that, the mere fact that the idiots who are running the show now were elected by Americans would indicated that a majority either don't consider that to be true at this time or are to stupid to care...

The people who voted “yes” showed the ignorant politicians we have the Right to keep and bear arms regardless how a badly worded poll is written.
Voting “no” hurts our cause.
