Republican pundits open fire on Sarah Palin
Their harsh views conflict with those of grass-roots GOP voters, revealing a serious split within the party.
By Mark Z. Barabak July 13, 2009
Since announcing her resignation, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been pummeled by critics who have called her incoherent, a quitter, a joke and a "political train wreck."
And those were fellow Republicans talking.
Palin has been a polarizing figure from the moment she stepped off the tundra into the bright lights last summer as John McCain's surprise vice presidential running mate.
Some of that hostility could be expected, given the hyper-partisanship of today's politics.
What is remarkable is the contempt Palin has engendered within her own party and the fact that so many of her GOP detractors are willing, even eager, to express it publicly -- even with Palin an early front-runner for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
Some admit their preference that she stay in Alaska and forget about any national ambitions.
"I am of the strong opinion that, at present day, she is not ready to be the leading voice of the GOP," said Todd Harris, a party strategist who likened Palin to the hopelessly dated "Miami Vice" -- something once cool that people regard years later with puzzlement and laughter. "It's not even that she hasn't paid her dues. I personally don't think she's ready to be commander in chief."

Funny cartoon, but they were never that big.
Who are Todd Harris, Stuart K. Spencer, and Mike Murphy?
A. People I have never heard of.
B. Typical examples of the kind of party operatives that have lost the Republicans the House, Senate and White House.
C. Jealous, petty a—holes who are trying to promote their own careers by tearing down the most popular, honest conservative in the party.
D. All of the above.
WOW. it is like you were reading my mind about these idiots.
This sounds like the RINO’s talking about Reagan in 1976. George HW Bush termed the phrase “voodoo economics” to describe Reagan’s tax cut plans.
Todd Harris, Stuart Spencer and Mike Murphy? All against Sarah? That’s it, the party’s over. With heavyweights like this trashing her she doesn’t have a chance. All those liberal newspapers were right, I guess. We really must need Romney.
Excellent points
These idiots spend half their time attacking conservative Sarah Palin, and the other half rying to figure out why a bunch of bumbling leftoid idiots are trashing the bejesus out of them at the polls.
It’s a great tragedy - and a terrible disservice to the nation - that the Republican Party of the United States has become a milquetoast organization populated by spineless eunuchs, the motto of which seems to be, “Bend over and spread ‘em for the Democrats”; and it is massively ironic that one of the few Republicans in the nation with any b*lls is a woman.
Her performance was remarkable, in spite of the most stupid, inept handing of a VP candidate imaginable by the McCain campaign. Here on FR, many of us were pulling our hair out from the moment those fools scheduled her first interview with Charlie Gibson, and gave him hours of footage to edit. One of the dumbest decisions ever in a campaign, for a governor who'd be put into a presidential campaign with almost no notice and little time for preparation.
These McCain campaign flunkies shouldn't be criticizing anyone, but rather reviewing the moves they made that resulted in one of the most ineptly run campaigns ever.
Never heard of Todd Harris?
She’s a loser, a failure, an inexperienced nothing nobody from a nowhere place - and by GOD, they can’t quit talking about her!!!
LOL! I love watching their heads explode!
Woops...I forgot about *that* Flipper. I meant the dolphin.
Maybe Sarah Palin want free trade with Honduras? We need help drill to get rid of Chavez oil. We refine for him, and we want use our refineries but not for his sulfury bad oil any more. Anyone?
I wonder if the political strategist named in the article is one of those “anonymous sources” from the McCain and Romney campaigns that have fed dirt to the state-run media?!
in her resignation speech, Palin was somewhat incoherent, she did quit, the political train wreck remains to be seen.
What if I agree with you. The only thing I know is that if Sarah is so fortunate to be elected she will be ready to be POTUS on Jan 20, 2013.
“If the candidate you tickturds select at the country club isnt Sarah Palin”
Sorry, but it won’t be Palin. Republicans have always picked someone with a rather long political resume and Sarah does not have it. After we beat Obama, she may be picked for a cabinet post which will add to her resume for a later run.
Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Dole, Bush, all had considerable resumes, much more than Sarah and much more than Obama too.
If she flips to the democrat party, there they don’t go with resumes and she might do better.
