It’s a generation past time for a change.
Die windoze die!
Or, you can enter, read and edit but you must pay for it to export or printout vowels, graphs and numbers.
Microsoft is not “free market” It’s predatory monopoly market.
“I fail to understand why so many conservatives, who should be supporting free market capitalism, are so down on Microsoft.”
They are sort of big company that you might initially hate, but once you get to know them really well, you really hate them. Their business tactics over the years may not (always) be illegal, but they have certainly been unethical.
This is a brutal blow by MS, not that it’s unexpected though. MS has been talking about cloud computing since before Google went public, their hands are just force right now. Either way this will succeed more than Googles apps because of familiarity and the name brand. Yeah I know some freepers here just swallowed their spit but when it comes to the office apps MS dominate ~97% of the desktop, thats huge and it has been that way for a couple of decades.
And they have sucked for years!
They make profits in every sector from hardware to ad space.
Fair comment, NewLand.
My disaffection with Micro$oft stems from watching their disgusting [certainly unethical and possibly illegal] to destroy application s/ware competitors in order to steal their business. What they did to Lotus 123 was absolutely beyond the pale. But I take your point about the offensive partisan interventionist nature of Google’s management.
Wrong...
Note I didn't say I like MS, but I don't agree with the Klinton philosophy that pursued them more vigorously than al queda.
I’m NOT an MS fan boy. I use Ubuntu Linux for my personal stuff, mostly.
That said, they do make {some} very good software products. Some, even, are so far ahead of the competition it’s just plain funny. OneNote comes to mind real quick in this regard.
Arguably, I’ll admit, their WindowsMobile product is exceedingly good, especially starting with V.5.0 and up. The venerable iPod, as great as it is, has nothing on WM ver. 6.5 As well, while not Open Sourced, it is highly configurable and highly modifiable.
As far as MS Office goes, I’m on your side, there. I’ve also been using OpenSource office apps, like you, starting with Star Office, and followed the upgrade path to OpenOffice 3.1.
Note to anyone who cares...I would not take Windows 7 lightly. This OS will go like gangbusters. I predict it will outpace XP in initial sales rollout and business migrations.
Probably going to make Microsoft Works Suite free.
