Sarah Palins political action committee raised nearly $733,000 in the first six months of 2009 and has more than $450,000 in cash on hand, according to new filings with the Federal Election Commission.
While Republicans are hopeful that Palin will be a big fundraising help for them, her PAC hasnt exactly been a campaign-finance ATM. Since its formation in late January, it appears to have made just two political contributions $5,000 to Palins 2008 running mate, Sen. John McCain, and $5,000 to Alaskas Republican senator, Lisa Murkowski.
The majority of the money raised by SarahPAC so far has come in the form of unitemized contributions, meaning donations of less than $200 each. PACS are not required to name those small donors in their filings with the FEC. The remaining money came through more than 700 different $200-plus contributions made by donors from all around the United States.
According to its FEC records, SarahPACs biggest expenditure during the reporting period was the more than $103,000 it spent on EDonation.com, a Virginia-based firm that specializes in online fundraising.
When Palin leaves the governors office at the end of the month, shell be able to use SarahPAC to underwrite the cost of politically related travel and appearances as well as to donate up to $10,000 each to federal candidates.
Considering that almost 60% were small contributions of 200 each, and not "big money" is an expression of her grassroots support.
I can't wait until she comes down to the lower 48 and gives speeches, book tours, radio and TV appearances! Go Sarah!
A person fully worth investing in.
I see that Murkowski who bashed Sarah Palin had no problem taking the money.
I say forget the GOP official fundraising arm. I say we donate all our money to SarahPAC and let them spend it on conservative candidates.
Did Murkowski actually say that?
Murkowski has been reported to be nervous for sometime of a Palin primary run against her for the Senate in 2010. She has been in the 70 - 80% voting range on her conservative record. Pretty weak since many votes that are rated are cherry picked so not to make the politician look too bad. That is why she is nervous.
Palin is probably grooming someone else for a primary run.
I agree, to heck with the RNC. I want SarahPAC to give to candidates Sarah supports.
The RNC gives money to some candidates I DON’T support and Sarah would never support.
Let Sarah be the gatekeeper, she deserves it..........she will also be darned good at it too.
Travelin’ money!
I guess the governor realized that she was not getting much out of Donatelli for THAT kind of money.
And the key thing is that the bulk of the contributions were for $200 or less, small donors mostly.
We can now make our movie called “300”!
Make that 301 already. LOL. I look forward to the next milestone.
Can we put together some comparison charts to see HOW MANY individuals gave compared to other candidats who receive big lump sums from only a few donors? I would like to make some charts to really see the significance and reach she has with tons of Americans.
Romney, by comparison, raised $404K in 6 months, while Sarah raised $733K in 5 months with almost no effort. 57% from donors $200 or less, and $250K additional according to anecdotal reports I've seen for her legal defense fund, all small donors.
Good start and money to travel, as you say. The thing to watch is when she starts trying to raise serious money for a political run of her own. No one in the party has her fundraising appeal and the level of smears and attacks from the Imperial Washington GOP establishment tells me they know it.
Sarah, IF she decides to run, will raise millions, but it won’t be from big ‘fat cat’ donors. She has said IF she ran, it would be a ‘grassroots campaign’...
And by the way, in my opinion, I DO NOT want Sarah to do a TV show. Speeches, the book, campaign speeches for candidates she likes, and occasional TV appearances.
The TV show (and I rarely watch TV any more, except to watch sports or a movie) even on FOX, will get her over exposed. I want the American public to go berserk wherever she goes.........if she is on TV every week, I think it will take away from her charming, maverick, grass roots appeal.
Yep, in due time you will be able to add my name to that list.
