Obama 'examining Afghan killings
BBC ^ | July 13, 2009

The US president says he is examining an alleged massacre in Afghanistan amid allegations the Bush administration resisted efforts to investigate it.

Barack Obama told CNN he had told officials to "collect the facts for me" and could order a full inquiry.

The allegations concern the deaths of hundreds or even thousands of Taliban fighters who had surrendered to the US-backed Northern Alliance in late 2001.

They were in the custody of a US-backed warlord, Gen Abdul Rashid Dostum.

The allegations that the prisoners were deliberately left to suffocate in shipping containers, or were shot dead through the container walls, first surfaced in 2002 but there has been no formal investigation.

If the BBC reported in the 30’s and 40’s the way they do today Churchill would have put the entire management up against the wall.

Via Instapundit:

Obama’s popularity declines, and the investigations begin. “Call me a cynic, but I am not in the least surprised that a couple of weeks after Barack Obama’s strong approval/disapproval ratings took a turn to the unfavorable and Obamacare is looking less like a lead pipe cinch it is suddenly time to investigate the Bush administration.”

So, what's the problem?

The Northern Alliance tried to read them their rights and send them to a beautiful island, but with the closing of Club Gitmo there just wasn't any where else to put them,
Sorry.

The Afghans believe that when one fights an enemy the objective is to kill them not send them on vacation.

Of course its a problem, but as it was not US or western forces who (allegedly) did it, its not our problem.

I guess we can just expect endless press releases of investigations into the Bush administration now that Obama's numbers have started to go downhill.

And of course, the whores in the MSM will do all they can to help their messiah.

Do you suppose he’s deeply concerned yet?

“but there has been no formal investigation.”

How does the BBC know whether or not an investigation was done within our military? Maybe it was done and the Obama crowd didn’t like the outcome?

Afhgan is Obama's war. He stepped in a pile and wants to wipe his shoes free of the stink before anyone notices.

A vague Obama policy is forming. It seems to be..."Talk tough and carry a limp stick".

He made Afghan his war priority and is doubling the number of US troops on the ground. That's the talk tough part.

He has tied our troops hands behind their backs with his 'do-no-harm' ROE.

He has our troops closing their eyes to poppy (heroin) production (wonder how that will play in the "urban" areas).

CNN reports for the past three days have Holbrook (our Afghan Czar) making "we will sit down and talk to the taliban" noises.

It seems to me that Obama wants to find the door before Afghan becomes Viet Nam in a burkha and cripples him for 2012. I have no problem believing that he would sell Afghan back to the indians, order all the cowboys home and worry not one bit about five years down the road when the bill for his Taliban appeasement will show up in the Afghan people's mailbox.

In short, LBJ investigates Hanoi bombings with an eye to the political advantage of convicting the pilots.

It’s gotta be tough to be a grunt nowadays: one eye on the enemy, and one eye on your Commander-in-Chief looking to score political points by sending you to jail for murder.

Your right. I remember Zig Ziggler saying “What's the first thing management does when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar? Hey, look yonder”.

Crap and Tax; the SCOTUS nominee up to bat; nationalized health care; Sarah Palin running loose and the latest on the CIA. The people and possibilities are not good so it is time to change the subject.

Get the “rest of the story” of the events surrounding this. Get the book “Horse Soldiers” and read it.

War is about killing people and breaking things. The Northern Alliance carried out a cavalry charge against overwhelming odds — at one point charging with horses against a dug-in Taliban whose weapons included automatic weapons intended for anti-aircraft defense. The mobile gun mount was dug in such that the muzzle pointed at the oncoming horsemen instead of up at the sky as originally designed.

If the Taliban were shot down like dogs, they got as good as they gave.

At one point, Taliban surrendered in great numbers and were held in a fortification that had a cache of weapons. The “prisoners” got hold of the weapons and started killing the soldiers to whom they’d just surrendered — soldiers who honored their surrender by not killing them. During this engagement, the first overseas American casualty of this war occurred — the killing of a CIA agent who was trying to assure that the Taliban who had just surrendered were treated properly.

The book is a good read by a man who had no reason to lie about these events.

Obama is spinning this out of control to divert attention from his own administration’s failure by revising recent history to the detriment of Bush’s early conduct of the war against terror.

All of this happened very soon after 9/11, back when most Americans and indeed most of the world supported the war against terror, back before the revisionists and spin doctors changed the war to “overseas contingency operations” and renamed the 9/11 attack on American soil a “man-caused disaster”.

In a just world, obama and the rest of Chicago thug-ocracy would be laughed out of office.
