New poll not good news for Sotomayor or Obama
LA Examiner ^ | July 12, 2009 | Marc Rubin

A new CNN poll has revealed numbers that are hardly a ringing endorsement either of President Obama or his nominee to the Supreme Court.

Regarding CNN's polling, there is a large disparity between their poll that says 72% feels Obama "inspires confidence" and their poll that shows that only 47% has confidence in his decision to nominate Sotomayor. It calls into question the accuracy of CNN's polling and whether Obama's positive numbers in other polls are skewed.

The fact that only 70% of Democrats want to see her confirmed is also a poor number. One would think the number would be 90% or higher if her confirmation was based purely on partisanship.

Perhaps it was unwise for the Kenyan to nominate a wise Latina woman.

Neither care about the poll. He won and she’s gonna be confirmed.

“The poll also indicates that Americans are split over whether senators are justified in voting against Sotomayor, based solely on her stand on the issues.”
have to wonder where our country is headed if people think a SC justice should be confirmed on anything but their stand on issues.

Perhaps she is being confirmed based on the fact she is a Latina. We live in strange and vapid times.

Here’s a little clue for you: politics can defeat political appointments.

The hope and change for a new “Iranian” election model means no more free, fair elections and no more polls or public opinion. Nobody cares what anyone thinks when the ballot box is controlled by ACORN. The left knows it can win again using the same tactics on steroids. Get ready for more stolen elections. There’s no one left with the guts to state the truth. Too many ‘go with the flow’ dead fish republicans out there.

“There’s no one left with the guts to state the truth.”

Are you completely mad? Or just severely not paying attention? See this article:

“i’m sure some part of that half are as you say, supporting her on that basis.”

Truth be told, I was being sarcastic. Her Latina origins no more “qualifies” her to be a SC justice, than does my Native American background. It's this sort throwback, racist attitude that's still holding the country back.

Unfortunately, the early promise the civil rights movement hinted at, will probably not be realized even in my grandchildren’s lifetimes. Sad.

i understood the sarcasm but there was still truth in the statement. No matter what the vote is,some percentage will vote for no other reason than some racial or religous or what have you connection to a candidate.

I recall hearing somewhere that in order for her nomination to get out of the Judiciary committee, that at least one Rep. has to vote affirmative. If that is the case, then the dems can’t get her before the Senate without at least one turn-coat R. Senator on the committee. So whoever is going to vote to confirm must be made aware that they will be strongly opposed in the Republican primary next time around and will not be supported in the general election should they survive the primary ....they need to realize this is a vote as much for their future as it is for Sotomayor and the liberal racist agenda of this administration.

You forgot to attach some kind of barf alert for those of us who actually clicked through to the article. Not sure what this guy's point of view is, but he must be pretty confused in general.

From the article: Given that the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with an individual's right to own a gun and that the idea that it does is based on pure myth and constitutional stupidity,

Phony, fraudulent, biased push polling by CNN? Why it seems impossible, doesn’t it!

SCOTUS nominees cannot be blocked in committee. Regardless of the committee recommendation she will still get a floor vote.
