SAO PAULO -- Former boxing champion Arturo Gatti, one of the most exciting fighters of his generation, was found dead in a hotel room in the posh seaside resort of Porto de Galihnas early Saturday.
Police investigator Edilson Alves told The Associated Press that the body of the former junior welterweight champ was discovered in his hotel room at the tourist resort, where Gatti had arrived on Friday with his Brazilian wife Amanda and 1-year-old son.
Alves said police were investigating and it was unclear how the 37-year-old Canadian died. Foul play is suspected in the death, the CBC reported.

thank you for informing us of this.
Sad sad loss for the sport and his family.
I am really shocked, stunned
Where was MJ’s doctors the last few days?
Can it still be Bush’s fault?
His second fight with Irish Mickey Ward was the last boxing match I got really excited about.
With Alexis Arguello, this is the second big-name boxer to die in the past month.
What a summer this has been for celebrity deaths. Seems like you can’t get through a week without somebody kicking the bucket that was unexpected.
Sorry to hear this. Up until his loss to Mayweather, he was fun to watch. He earned his place in boxing history.
Shot himself through the heart, according to officials, but his long time support of the pro-USA Contras makes this official judgment at least a little bit suspect.
Last week ESPN replayed both of Arguello’s 1982 fights against Aaron Pryor.
Wow.
Two of the greatest fights I have ever seen.
Pryor won both by KO.
For those who don't know Pryor, he resembled a 150 pound Joe Frazier.
Constant head motion, constant attack, tremendous punching power and accuracy, tireless, Pryor took every shot Arguello put on him and kept coming in.
Arguello was a bit past his prime at age 31-32, plus he had a huge number of fights, but he had the heart of a champion and never gave up, even after Pryor put him on the canvas several times in both fights.
Aaron Pryor was a great talent who had his career cut short due to a crack cocaine addiction.
Those Arguello-Pryor fights were fun to watch.
A crack head?
I had no idea.
On second thought, he did have 300% more energy than the average boxer.
Last I heard, he was a preacher and a family man, so, I hope its all turned around for him.
