When Michael Jackson died in late June, Patricia Becht's younger children asked her about his ranch, Neverland. It was a place for kids to go, she told them, and it was similar to heaven. Going to such a place, she said, would be part of their suicide plan.
Becht, of South St. Paul, was charged Friday with first-degree premeditated murder of her 10-year-old son and attempted first-degree murder of her 11-year-old daughter, who is recovering at a metro hospital. Becht gave them and herself an overdose of anti-psychotic medication, court documents say.
She had planned her acts so meticulously that she had a "to do" list for the day before she launched her plan, investigators say.
Police, summoned Monday evening to the home by a relative, found Erica Becht in grave condition downstairs and Michael Vonheath Becht dead in an upstairs bedroom. Patricia Becht was in a bathroom, vomiting.

That’s what I thought too. She was a real wonder. How she came up with that one; who knows.
Hint: Lefties hate Sarah. No matter their ethnic background.
Yep, a very unnatural hate it is.
He's that guy who knowingly got Himself killed, even though He could have avoided it, right? He's the one who had so many followers get themselves killed off, or kill themselves to be with Him rather than stay here in this temporal existence. It could be argued that it would take a lot of Michael Jacksons or Jim Jones to catch up.
Perhaps you could explain why, to a person searching objectively for a "savior," Jesus would be any better than all other options...? If you can, many churches could use your help./,p> Don't get me wrong...I think He'd be a much better moral example and role-model, but other than asserting it's so, what can be said to make that argument?
“Perhaps you could explain why, to a person searching objectively for a “savior,” Jesus would be any better than all other options..”
Because He is the only begotten son of God; who took humanity upon Himself; lived a sinless life; and offered Himself up as a sacrifice to pay for our sins, that we might be right with God and live in heaven with Him.
As for those who you think might kill themselves to be with Him, that is expressly forbidden by Him, so I don’t think it would work.
“People want a Savior so badly. Why dont they look to Jesus? Why Michael Jackson, etc.?”
“My guess would be that God left rules (Commandments) that were to be kept. A modern messiah requires nothing more than a followers devotion (and perhaps money).”
Insightful, I should have thought of that. Christianity demands we die to self and follow Christ. Jacko demanded nothing.
But you can't provide much evidence to compete with the pop stars.
The question was why people turn to these other "saviors" and I am suggesting one reason.
As for those who you think might kill themselves to be with Him, that is expressly forbidden by Him, so I dont think it would work.
Actually, it is not expressly forbidden by Him, and for centuries Christians did exactly that.
It wasn't until that Council of Braga A.D. 561--centuries after Christ's death--that the Church decided to change things. It was along with the proclamation, for example, that priests have to eat their vegetables in meat broth or be excommunicated. I don't recall Christ "expressly forbidding" vegetarianism, either, but these were all political decisions, of course.
One faction of The Church wanted to support bishops who had collaborated with the Romans and attack those who believed bishops should be more pure. These politiical moves attacked the more pious factions and kept power with those who had it.
“But you can’t provide much evidence to compete with the pop stars.”
If Scripture and 6,000 years of recorded history don’t compete with Entertainment Tonight with you, I don’t know what to say.
As for suicide, you seem to be confusing suicide with sacrifice. To be murdered for your faith is not suicide. To blow your head off with a gun is.
All murder is forbidden in Scripture, including self murder. Witness the death of Saul, if you care to.
