Can Margaret Thatcher REALLY have cut out daughter Carol from her will?
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 11th July 2009 | Geoffrey Levy

Posted on 07/10/2009 7:18:25 PM PDT by naturalman1975

Emerging shakily from hospital 12 days ago with her left arm in a sling, Baroness Thatcher was asked by her daughter, Carol: 'Are you all right, Mum?' Back came the pithy retort: 'Why shouldn't I be?'

At 83, Margaret Thatcher might be frail, both mentally and physically, but, clearly, a lot of the old Iron Lady is still there as she recovers from a fall in which she broke her upper arm, necessitating 17 days in hospital.

For the time being, however, she is not leaving her home in Belgravia - not even to make a brief, invited return to 10 Downing Street, which she left in tears in 1990 after 11 years as Prime Minister.

It means that the unveiling there on Monday of her portrait by Richard Stone - commissioned by Gordon Brown - has had to be postponed for a second time. It was originally scheduled to be unveiled in late February, but that was the day Ivan, the six-year-old disabled son of key guest David Cameron, died, so the ceremony was postponed.

To make sure no further damage is done to her arm before it has the chance to heal, Lady Thatcher has also cancelled a lunch date with former Cabinet colleagues Lords (Kenneth) Baker and (Norman) Tebbit, who were due to take her to the Cartoon Museum in London on July 26. That is the last day of the exhibition Maggie! Maggie! Maggie! which has been running since early May, and which she has not seen.

'She didn't really look at cartoons when she was at No 10 - she was so confident, she didn't worry about them - unlike John Major,' says former Home Secretary Lord Baker, 74, guest co-curator of the exhibition.

* sigh *

Why is this news?

And if Al Bore or Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter cut their offspring from their wills, why should it make the news?

It's personal legal matters and should stay that way. It's NOBODY'S business.

I agree - but most of the article isn’t about that, despite the headline.

I am surprised any will is legally binding anymore these days. Disgruntled heirs simply sue and eventually end up with a cut.

I thought the government got to take a family's money when someone died these days? An increase in the estate tax would solve this problem.

Seventeen days in the hospital???

But she’s in her eighties.

Nobody over 55 gets seventeen days in the hospital in the UK.

Over 55, you must adjust your expectations. You only get a pain pill every six hours.

Coming soon to the USA

That is totally out of the pale to question such a personal decision. I am sure she has her reasons. IS NOTHING SACRED? Must we know everything about everybody????

My (liberal, socialist, British) husband blames EVERY ill in the UK on Thatcher. It’s sooooo funny. It’s just like BDS here. ;-) You can rest assured we don’t talk about politics too often.
