NEW YORK The head of the United Nations General Assembly signalled Friday a breakthrough is imminent in talks to resolve the political crisis in Honduras.
Miguel dEscoto Brockmann spoke in New York as thousands of supporters of Hondurass ousted president, Manuel Zelaya, held rallies in the Central American country.
I have a feeling that we are moving in that direction rather quickly, the former Nicaraguan revolutionary, who is also a Catholic priest, told a news conference at the UN.
Insiders suggested that a timetable had been laid out in which Zelaya, a rich landowner whose leftist policies led him to become a close ally of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, would return to his country as early as next week. He would be allowed to complete his term as president through to January in return for making clear he has no intention of seeking to extend his rule, they said.

Actually....there is the “Palin Strategy” that could be utilized in this situation.
Have Zelaya resign as president (on paper and in front of the cameras)...doesn’t matter where he does the announcement. Then allow him to return to Honduras and he can run run in the November elections because he didn’t isn’t a current president of the country.
The only problem with this strategy...he was barely pushing a 35 percent approval rating in March...and even today...I doubt if it stands at 40 or more percent. Then you have the problem of no Venezuelan ballots to be utilized...meaning they are back to good old fashioned Honduran voting corruption...which could go in any direction.
I wouldn’t advise the “Palin Strategy” but you know...stranger things have worked in the past.
Is this guy still s priest?
BUT, the UN and the US is working mightily to get his reinstated - go figger.
I see that you do not post much. So, when you decide to make a post, why do you drop the F bomb?
I believe the UN, about as far as I can throw them.....
Keep the commie bastage out and stand by the principles of the constitution that you hold dear to. Stay the course freedom fighters!!!
"How long do you think it will be before the ignorant peasants figure out THIS scam?"
“You can bet that if the UN is involved, the people of Honduras are about to get screwed over.”

Yeah, exactly. And where’s Carter? He just can’t stay away from this stuff. This is sad, the commies are parading around on the side of ‘freedom’ - it’s a sad Orwellian kind of theater.
Yep, this is Reuters version of objectivity.

Right. Here’s paragraph 2 for them:
“Miguel dEscoto Brockmann spoke in New York as thousands of supporters of Hondurass ousted president, Manuel Zelaya, held rallies in the Central American country.”
Then in paragraph 6 we get the opposing view (finally):
“who has argued Zelayas expulsion was not a coup because the military acted under the authority of the Honduran Supreme Court.”
The enemedia always tries to spin the headlines, the first 30 seconds, the sound bites, to control the news cycle, to control public opinion, to attempt to control the messages of the world. This is what we’re constantly up against. And this is not nearly as bad as many other examples - as I’m sure you all know.
Serve out his term?! He isn’t President anymore. He was impeached by a unanimous vote of the Honduran Congress.
Oh, and save the 'old timer poster' snobbery for someone else who truly needs it. Kthx.
Nope, no f-bombing for the sake of it from I, just quoting our illustrious 39th president who has been recently displaced as the worst US president in history.
This is UN propaganda. This guy is announcing an impending deal.
So that means there is no deal. He’s trying to increase pressure on the constitutional government of Honduras to capitulate.
That’s what this “story” is about.
