This is supposed to honor St. John Neumann's work with immigrant communities. It does look like someone was trying to put some thought into this. But it appears that the stole is a modern replica that St. John Neumann never laid eyes on.

She's dressed just like some of the Muslims who frequent Sam's Club on a Sunday, except that the skirt is too short.

"President Barack Obama sat down with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican on Friday for a meeting in which frank but constructive talks were expected between two men who agree on helping the poor..."

The Pope helps the poor. Obama helps himself.

>>It certainly bests the London wedding cake dress ensemble. :)<<

When the bar is that low, the only place to go is up!

OH My!!! She is so scary looking to me. I did see her receive some kind of medal from the Pope. I think that is what she is carrying—she misplaced her alligator clutch ;)

It looks like the Vatican medallion the Pope presented to them- in a white box.
That veil she is wearing is a funeral veil- I have never seen it worn by anyone other than a grieving widow. Check the Kennedy funerals for other views.
But at least she didn't embarrass us at the Vatican.

It’s appropriate to dress like you’re attending a funeral?

Official protocol for a private audience with the Pope requires women to wear a modest black dress/suit/outfit with a black head covering (usually a mantilla). Catholic queens have a special privilege, privilege du blanc, of wearing white - a white dress/suit/outfit with a white mantilla/veil.

I thought I was the only thinking that she looked more depressing than respectful.

Well, the outfit is better than I expected. But she could have ditched the boob belt and worn a mantilla. And I second the comments regarding the terrific photos of the Reagans with Pope John Paul.

Good Lord. You don’t think she borrowed Jackie O’s funeral veil, do you? That would just be too disgusting for words.
